Hi Folks,
So sorry to post it during this time after our Administrater asked us to refrain. But I need a little help.
Do you or anybody know a recipe for Pascha (or Paska) bread? USING BREAD MACHINE???
Most receipes call for at least 8 to 10 cups of flour. I don't need all that bread. I only need one loaf. Plus as a man, I prefer to use machine rather than working too much on something especially since I'm very busy.
It doesn't matter which origin the bread is from, whether it's Slovakian, Ukrainian, Carpo-Rusyn, etc. As long you know it'll taste good and that I have it in my basket in time. Thanks. I'm sorry to post it at a time like this.

spdundas, I don't have a bread machine (I would need some place to put it in my teeny tiny house ![[Linked Image]](https://www.byzcath.org/bboard/smile.gif) ) but it seems to me that if you have a recipe you like, which is too big for your needs, simply divide it. The trick is to keep the ingredient proportions the same - so if your original recipe called for, say, 8 cups of flour and 3 cups of milk, you'd use 4 cups of flour, and a cup-and-a-half of milk. Most Pascha recipes I've seen are simply bread recipes with a little more sugar, an extra egg or two, and maybe some raisins. Myself, I start with a Challah recipe & go from there. Best, Sharon Sharon Mech, SFO (who needs at least another week before Pascha.....) sharon@cmhc.com

Sharon,
Do you have a recipe for Pascha without a bread maker? My wife (a Church of Christ protestant who was never baptized, then was baptized Roman Catholic before marrying me 7 years ago, now finally Byzantine Catholic officially) would like to try to make it.
I promised her I'd ask you after she read this thread.
Thanks,
Erik

GLORY TO YOU LONG SUFFERING OH LORD! Hi gang Why not try the following site: www.iarelative.com/easter/index.html [ iarelative.com] They have a lot of wonderful ideas and recipes for Easter. Maybe they will have something or someone can direct you in the right area. I don't see why you can't use a regular bread dough recipe and just add rasins to it. My Baba's Paska recipe was the same recipe she used when she made bread during the week. The only difference is she added a mixture of regular and golden raisins to make the Paska sweet and moist. Well, to each his own..... Wishing everyone a very prayerful peaceful Great Week and a Bright and Joyful Paska! mark

Erik, I'd try the website Mark mentioned. (Thank you Mark!) This Jew usually just starts with a challah recipe. I don't use raisins 'cause my husband really REALLY hates them. Funny how everyone's basket reflects not just the Church's traditions, but the particular family's. There's no pork in my basket - ain't kosher, ya know ![[Linked Image]](https://www.byzcath.org/bboard/wink.gif) Come to think of it, I'll be lucky if I even get a basket together this year - 5 pysanky done, none de-waxed, dresses half sewn, and this little peanut (6 weeks today, YIPPPEEEE & KEEP THEM PRAYERS A'COMIN!!!) has me SO exhausted come evening that I dunno if I'm going to get any farther on anything. Ah well, Lord, not my agenda, but Yours! Looking forward to Holy Annointing tonight, bigtime! Cheers on a very-hopefully-sunny-but-probably-will-rain-by-evening Great & Holy Wednesday, Sharon Sharon Mech, SFO Cantor & sinner sharon@cmhc.com

GLORY TO YOUR LONG SUFFERING O LORD!
Hi Sharon
I just go a wonderful pattern for, of all things, a Seder design for a pysanka. I'm planning on doing it AFTER Paska as I don't think I'm going to have enough time to finish the pysanky I have started now let alone get them into the mail before Bright Week!
I'll get pics of it as soon as I get it finished.
A Blessed Paska to you and your family!

As a convert who has neither tradition on my side, nor a wife who is Orthodox, I tried making Pascha bread for the first time this year. It came out okay, but cracked on one side where it rose out of the pan. I think that was due to not kneading a fold out of the dough sufficiently. I used a regular bread pan. Do you all use coffee cans? What do you decorate the top with? Do you make a cross of something sweet, or of bread? Also, do you put anything in your Paschas other than nuts and/or raisins?
Hoping to do better next time....
