The Byzantine Forum is about to receive a major software update!

A specific date has not been chosen, but one day this week or next the Forum will receive a major software upgrade. So if you visit the Forum and find that it is closed for maintenance dont be alarmed we will be installing the new software.

The new software is not just an upgrade but a totally new program (produced by the same company). There are lots more features and the new software allows for much more customization. The plan is to upgrade the software and then set the layout and features to be as close to what we have now, then to experiment with some of the new features (we dont want to overwhelm either ourselves or our readers with changes!).

We may also take the opportunity of the upgrade to merge and/or rename a few Forums. The Parish Life and Evangelization forums seem pretty redundant and are being considered for merging. The Books forum is working out very well. ByzanTEEN might be moved back from Private Forums to Public Forums. But nothing is decided yet and things may change.

Do you have any suggestions on how to improve your Forum? If yes, please post them here!

This sounds like fun! Congratulations! No immediate suggestions on improving the forum, but I'll give it some thoughts.

Virtual confession? wink

Seriously, look forward to the new capabilities.

Here are a few other suggestions:

- One thought may be a feature whereby you can upload PDF's. Of course, that could get expensive with the potential file sizes...

- A way to build your own homepages through ByzCath.

- On-line chat feature for those logged in.

- A ByzCath Tube (like You Tube) as was suggested earlier

Pardon my non-technical mind here. I have no idea how difficult (or expensive) these features would be.

Hi John,

FYI: It seems that all the posts from the entire forum, between 6:09 a.m. and 8:41 a.m., have disappeared.

John et al,

Apparently the company that hosts ByzCath did a server reboot without first hitting the command for a backup. Being the last backup was done at 6:15 local time here, anything posted after that until the server reboot finished was lost. Nothing intentional was meant by it and around 10-12 posts were lost because of it. We are sorry for the problem and ask that the reply posts be reposted.

Also, on chat, would it be possible to have VOICE added. There is a group that prays in chat, so it would be nice to share that in our Eastern Prayers also.

Yeah, how'd you get that one?

I want a tryzub!

I can't put another smiley face because the program won't let me.

Here is the URL for the tryzub: http://www.ukrcenter.com/gallery/Images/emotions/tryzub.gif

While writing my original post I learned that the current forum software only allows eight images per post.

My two cents:

Please keep the site design simple and user-friendly. Other websites have so many folders for different topics that I spend too much time just trying to find the topics ! Having 10 general folders for topics is a nice, manageable amount.

Also, could there be a way to list all of a person's posts (instead of just the most recent ones)?

Otherwise, the site is good; thank you for providing it !
