I do respect our Patriarch. The only thing is that he does not have a strong personality and is not direct when speaking to Rome. Our Patriarchate should be established already. Also, His Beatitude "sucks up" to Rome to much. Our strong patriarch died 20 years ago. Yoou know who I'm taliking about. He went in to the Pope and pretty much said We are both first among equals. Im not saying I want Fi;laret as Patriarch Just saying that he has a stronger personality.
PS Imagine if Pat. Josyf I and Pat. Mstyslav lived in todays times. We would have One Ukrainain Church!

If St. Andrey Sheptytsky was alive, that would be my choice for the one Kyivan Patriarch. While Patriarch Josyp was a hero, saint, and confessor, he did not have the intellectual and ecclesiastical charisma of St. Andrey.
But Patriarch Lubomyr is definitely OK with me. Having a Studite for Patriarch who was the right-hand of Patriarch Josyp for many years is certainly better than many of the alternatives...While Patriarch Lubomyr may have some weaknesses, I think he does have the "big picture" and a road map for leading our Church into the future. He definitely is a better candidate for the one Kyivan Patriarch than Filaret.

Patriarch Lubomyr would be a good choice but I think maybe someone from the diaspora would be good because some people in Ukraine may not like the fact that their patriarch wouldn't be chosen. Also, bringing someone from the outside could start anew without any reputation or bais.
I would like to see either of these three from the diaspora become Patriarch of Kyiv : Archbishop Vsevolod UOC-USA, Archbishop Antony UOC-USA or Bishop Hlib (Lonchyna- another Studite).
Ideally, when the Church of Kyiv is unified, (notice I said when, not if ;-) a Sobor will be called and all of the bishops will come together and through the guidance of the Risen Lord, a Patrairch will be chosen to govern the God fearing people of Ukraine and her sons and daughters scattered throughout the diaspora.
Also, I get kind of upset when we worry what Moscow said or what they will think or if they will be upset. I say who cares! Moscow is in Russia and Kyiv is in Ukraine and that is what we should be worried about, establishing a Patriarchate for Ukraine so that we may be unified as a country through Christ. Let Moscow whine but I won't listen.

As a Greek-American, I have a lot of respect for the traditional aspects of major and minor patriarchs. I am also MORE than aware that Kiev is the mother-ship of Northern Slavic Orthodoxy. It is also clear that the political elements have had a major impact on ecclesiastical structures and that Kiev, though the 'first' of the episcopal sees, has been eclipsed by Moscow.
In this day and age, it seems rather strange that the root episcopal (and therefore: Patriarchal) see of the Northern Slavs should be denied to Kiev.
As far as I'm concerned, the Kievan See should be the base point of Northern Slavic Christianity. Although there has been a lot of history, the fact remains that Kiev, according to the Canons, should be honored as the first See among the Northern Slavs.
If the question is one of armies, then I would be more than willing to donate a thousand dollars to provide "troops" to reinforce the Kievan hegemony. (Gee, most Greeks I know think that Ukrainians are incredibly cool. They are just like Greeks: don't take crap; and fight like hell when oppressors come along. Oh yeah, and use tons of garlic and other good foods to keep the people strong. Hey, what's not to love? As for the Carpatho-Ruthenians, Go get 'em!! when the Muscovites say you're only a vassal, tell 'em to take a hike.)
Christ is Risen!!! (Dr. John: Friend of Ukraine!)

I Love them Greeks. They are our Spitritual Ancestors. Anyway, Dont think i want Filaret as patriarch but he said one interesting thing when he came to Chicago. He said that Kyiv should have the main Northern Slavic Patriarchy and that Moscow should unite with Kyiv. I thought that this was interesting. Anyway, kyr Hlib (lonchyna) EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!! Lets Pray it Happens.

Dear All:
If nothing else, it seems logical that Kyr Hlib is Patriarch Lubomyr's hand-picked successor just like Lubomyr was Patriarch Joseph's (small do-nothing interim administration notwithstanding).
Yours,

Dear Dr. John,
O.K. you are going to be made an honorary Ukrainian right now.
Just click on your mouse three times and bow your head before your computer screen as you say "Kozak!"
The only after effect of this is that you might start to feel greatly attracted to garlic . . .
Also, it's "Kyiv" not "Kiev!"
That's the now official name.

Dear Friends,
Let's first have our patriarchate recognized . . .
Then we can talk about other matters . . .
All our leaders had their weaknesses, including St Andrij Sheptytsky!
But yet God worked and continues to work through them . . .

Dear kl, that is exactly why Patriarch Lubomyr is doing with Kyr Hlib, grooming him, and also I believe explains why Patriarch Lubomyr didn't want to give up Kyr Hlib to take Chicago. We'll see what happens in the Eparchy of Chicago but I think that is very good in the long run for the UGCC.

Dear Ukipatr, Good for you! Did you know there is an online Akathist to St Petro Mohyla? It is at: akafist.narod.ru It has some anti-uniate thrusts, but nothing that can't be quickly edited out! Alex

XPUCTOC BOCKPEC!
Dear Diak:
This will probably come out wrong, but I think you and I are in argeement that Chicago is not exactly where you want to groom the next Patriarch of UGCC.
Vladyka-designate Richard is a cannon lawyer from what I understand, so I can't help but have a good feeling about him. (See my profile if you don't get the joke). I'm sure Vladyka-emeritus Innocent will help him with his Ukrainian language as well.
Yours,
kl
