I'm posting this a bit late, but today, August 25th, is the memorial to Blessed Mary of Jesus Crucified, OCD. From the Discalced Carmelite Propers:

Quote
August 25. Bl Mary of Jesus Crucified OCD, Virgin. 1846-1878, Galilee. Opt Mem, Common of Virgins or of Holy Women, Religious. Blessed Mary of Jesus Crucified was born of the Baouardy family, Catholics of the Greek Melchite Rite, at Abellin in Galilee in 1846. In 1867 she entered the Discalced Carmelites at Pau in France, and was sent with the founding group to the Carmel of Mangalore in India where, in 1870, she made her profession. She returned to France in 1872. In 1875 she went to the Holy Land where she built a monastery in Bethlehem and began planning for another at Nazareth. Noted for her supernatural gifts, especially for humility, for her devotion to the Holy Spirit, and her great love for the Church and the Pope, she died at Bethlehem in 1878.
Blessed Mary of Jesus Crucified pray for us and for Christians living in the Holy Land.

Off the web site of the The Sacred Heart Fathers and Brothers (SCJ Betharram).

I thought I had heard of this nun before.

That Betharramite religious are present in the Bethlehem and Nazareth at all is due to Providential intervention, centred on the persistence of Sister Mary of Jesus Crucified (now Blessed Miriam Bouardy). She was a Palestinian Christian Arab and a Carmelite Nun, whose story is a series of marvels too long to tell here. These two houses, were the centres of formation for all Betharramite religious from the 1880s, when they were founded by Fathers Etchecopar and Estrate, until 1947. Today there are 9 Religious resident, 4 in Nazareth and 5 in Bethlehem, together with some young Palestinians applying to join the Congregation.

Fascinating information about Sister Mary of Jesus Crucified-Blessed Miriam Bouardy, Pavel. Thanks for the link. I think I may explore a bit more about her life as a Byzantine Carmelite--that's intriguing.

James, yes please post that link. My source is a series of multiple .zip files that form a booklet. A simple .pdf file would be helpful. smile

Here's more on the life of Blessed Mary of Jesus Crucified. She as you might guess, led a event filled life which included being beaten for refusing to go along with an arranged marriage at age 13th, and almost being killed later by a jealous suitor. She experienced stigmata and levitation among other numerous mystical phenomenon.
