My devotions are to:

The blessed Virgin Mary and Mother of our God.

The Archangel Michael, protector and defender against evil...(as well as my baptismal name patron).

St. Nektarios of Aegina, wonderworker.

I would have to say my favorites are both from the Alexandrian tradition: St. Cyril of Alexandria (this should be obvious by my forum name) and St. Athanasius the Great. I see a lot of St. Cyril in me and so I took him at my confirmation as my namesake; as for Athanasius, I recall something about "Athanasius versus the world." To take on all the Arians must have been quite the feat.

Some off in a distant pool of honorable mentions include:
St. Lawrence the Archdeacon
St. Ephrem
St. Benedict
St. Pio of Pietrelcina
St. Therese of Lisieux
St. Romanos

Cyril, enjoying this thread

St Francis of Assisi for his love and kindness for all God's creatures, and St Bernadette Soubirous for her deep yet child like faith. They were two of the first Saints I learned about when I was quite young, and there lives left a deep impression on me.

Saint Cuthbert of Lindisfarne, my protector.
A Holy Hierarch and hermit who loved to romp and praise God with sea otters in the ocean all night under the sparkling stars. Now that's my idea of an All Night Vigil! smile

My favorite saints are:

John the Theologian - for his gospel
Mary Magdalene - for her great love of Jesus
Nathanael - he came and saw
Photina - the Samaritan woman "He told me everything I have done."

In a previous response to this topic, I forgot to mention St. Elizabeth Ann Seton - for her deep faith and love for the Eucharist and abandonment to the Will of God in all the difficult circumstances of her life as wife, mother, teacher and foundress.

Francis of Assisi - I am especially touched by his slightly-insane devotion to imitating Christ as well as his deep love for the poor.

John the Baptist - I admire his courage combined with humility. How many of us in his position would be willing to say, "I am not worthy to untie your sandal"?

Mary Magdalene - The fact that a sinful woman like her was privileged to be the first to witness the Risen Lord explains Christianity in a nutshell. How I wish that devotion to her was greater!

Athanasius - His dogged determination and deep intellegence combined with deep faith are quite inspiring.

Paul of Tarsus - He reminds us that the task of evangelization should be at the top of all our lists of things we need to do!
