I came across this recently, and I thought that the theological issues it raised would be much food for thought and discussion:

If we could shrink the earth's population to a village of precisely
100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it
would look something like the following:

There would be:
57 Asians
21 Europeans
14 from the Western Hemisphere, both north and south
8 Africans
52 would be female
48 would be male
70 would be non-white
30 would be white
70 would be non-Christian
30 would be Christian
89 would be heterosexual
11 would be homosexual
6 people would possess 59% of the entire world's wealth and all 6
would be from the United States.
80 would live in substandard housing
70 would be unable to read
50 would suffer from malnutrition
1 would be near ; 1 would be near birth
1 (yes, only 1) would have a college education
1 would own a computer

When one considers our world from such a compressed perspective, the
need for acceptance, understanding and education becomes glaringly
apparent.

The following is also something to ponder...
If you woke up this morning with more health than illness...you are
more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of
imprisonment, the agony of , or the pangs of starvation ...you
are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment,
arrest, , or ...you are more blessed than three billion
people in the world.

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof
overhead and a place to sleep...you are richer than 75% of this
world.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a
dish someplace ... you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

If your parents are still alive and still married ... you are very
rare, even in the United States and Canada.

Just some food for thought....

Thank you!

For many, many people. your post represents those issues that matter the most to people of faith. All else is trivial in comparison.

Thank you for taking the time to refresh memories and help some believers re-set/recover their priorities.

It is so funny who this thing makes it around the net.

When you recieve anything in email I suggest you go to http://www.snopes2.com/ which is the Urban Legends Reference Pages.

Just take the title of the email or the first sentence and seach on it.

Here is the link to this one, http://www.snopes.com/science/stats/populate.htm

I am not going to post any of it here as it does a good job there.

As it says in the orgin....

Origins: This thing has been circulating for ages (in Internet time) now, and people seem to find the contrasts it highlights between the "haves" and "have-nots" of the world compelling. However, much of the information it presents is questionable, out of date, or poorly-defined:

Well, I see you didn't check out the link provided because.....

As of the stats compiled for the year 2000 the female:male ratio was 50:50....

Hmmmmmmm, what does this say about you now? biggrin

I thought off the back David that some of that stuff was wacked out.

8% of the wealthy in the world? Sounds like an American "liberal" came up with this. To be supported of course by an American "conservative".

The truth is the, the comfort level of the poor today in the Western world is by-in-large better then that of the rich (at least in colder climates like Germany or England) in the Western world of say... the 14th century. By comfort I mean things like heating & cooling, running water, recreation like tv and radio, modern transportation, micro waves & convientional stoves.

Another thing there are many people through out the world that do well enough for themselves with out being American. The middle class in Hong Kong live far better then the middle class in America, nor are the majority of Canadians running to the boarder to live in America. We a Americans are just brain washed into thinking everyone else in the world is living in squaller - but hey! It helps the U.S. government keep pumping something like 300 billion a year into military (aggression & encrouchment. Not defense) and paying tributes to the Koreans, Isrealies, Russians and I'm sure the list just goes on and on.

I know you didn't say anything about living good in the US, I just took the opportunity to rant.

Any ways poverty to the point of having nill is quite real in America for many people. But it does not come via the route most people in America seem to think or at least preach.

I've got two young cousins who no longer live in Milwaukee. Their mother has lost custody of them to her sister in Ohio. My cousins father is in prison. Both of their parents are crack cocain addicts. Once two very attractive and productive people brung down very hard from hard narcotics use. Few people who have little experinces with hard narcotic addictions like carck, have little understanding that people often come to the point of selling literaly everything they have for the drug, the food in the frig included, even some mothers have sold their duagthers.

The children of these homes go through literal hell. And some people want to legalize these narcotics as though no societal backlash will occur. And then their are people with bleeding hearts for Peruvian rural poor who - don't starve - but have to ration the little they have, and in living in their want go for the bigger economic gain of harvesting cocain for the US - of course not caring for the children raped, hungry, new cloths and beds sold, and left alone because of their parents crack cocain use in the US. And people wonder why we in America have some of the meanest SOB's in the world. LOL!
