We, the Roman Catholics, dont usually use the term Theotokos, though the title was given by the Catholics, because the official language of the offices is Latin. We accept the title St. Mary because it comes from the the Latin Sancta,ae, that translated into English is Holy. And more, the first day of the year, 1st of January, is dedicated to the Solemnity of St. Mary, Mother of God (Theotokos, if we put the Greek title), in the Roman Liturgy. So, it really doesnt matter if you call Mary as Saint, Holy, or Theotokos, we have to remember what Jesus said in the Calvary when he gave his Mother to John and this way to all of us. I think the right way of calling Mary is My Mother.

Dear Nelson,

Yes, she IS My Mother!

But to everyone else she is the "Most Holy Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary!"

Bout now I'm NOT sure...LOL Blame Alice for ALL my balance...she's been a great help to me...she's one of my spiritual directors. biggrin

Thanks be to God for such people!

I guess it's all a process of growth? I went through the 'vistochniki' phase...but that is filled with pride and danger (at least for me)...also there's a WONDERFUL article by Fr. Seraphim Rose which he wrote to converts about balance---which is incredible and beautiful...he stresses CHARITY and KINDNESS as THE only path.

Your brother in Him,
+Fr. Gregory

Bless, Father Gregory,

Yes, Mother Alice is my spiritual mentor too!

I also went through a "Vostochnik" phase, like that story about the fellow who came to church with "prayer ropes dangling from his wrist" and the like smile

When I first read that, I wanted to find out which one of my friends wrote that about me . . . smile

+The LORD bless you! Among my priest-friends, we have a name for such people: "TYPES" They're "types"...if it's a 'stage' it's OK...and comprehensible...but if not, it's 'deception' plan and simple.

Love you!

Bless, Father Gregory,

Love y'a too!

I once thought that "prelest" was a kind of "before lest" until such time as one was "fullest."

I won't get in to my issue with the "lestovka . . ." wink

Bless, Father!

Thank you, but I have one from there too!

There is also a "ladder rosary" used by RC's that is very handsome.

Mother Angelica once held up a green ladder rosary and said, "Every Irishman in the U.S. should have one of these. You may scoff and ask where I'd get so many to send out. Well . . . I would find someone to make them . . ."

What a wonderful lady!

I collaborated with an Old Believer acquaintance in Kyiv in developing a small video about their history.

He tells me that Old Believers have a second lestovka, 150 smaller "steps" divided every ten by a larger one for the saying of the Ros. . . I mean the Rule of the Mother of God.

Bill,

As I was listening last evening to Sunday School cancellation announcements in anticipation of the storm, I was struck by the large number of Catholic parishes in eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire that are titled "St. Mary's".

Many years,

Good point, Neil.

Have you all ever noticed that severe weather radio reports, when they give the school cancellations, is like a Litnany of the Saints? smile With ever school cancellation, you can throw in a "pray for us."

Dear Ghazar,

Interestingly enough, when the Icon of the Black Madonna was taken from Belz to Cracow in Poland by Wladislaw Opolskie way back when, the horse-back train stopped at several spots along the way.

Afterwards, miraculous occurrences happened at those spots and there are today monasteries and churches marking the path the icon took all the way to Cracow - with miraculous copies of the icon at each shrine.
