While the linked news story identifies the beheaded priest as "Fr. Amer Iskender," AsiaNews names him as "Fr. Paulos Eskandar, a Syrian-Orthodox priest." Even then, he is a Christian priest.

This heinous crime leads to further emigration of Christians out of Iraq!

It's becoming harder for Christians to put trust on their own countrymen!

GRACE AND MERCY LORD!

Let the blood of your martyrs raise up your Church Lord empower them by your Holy Spirit - then as the apostles when they spoke - the heart of man will be converted.

May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.

Holy God, deliver other Christians from such persecution and death in Iraq. Send forth your angels to protect all priests there.

In the Name of Jesus...

The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church.

May the martyrdom of Father Amer (Paulos) be one of the seeds of the reconversion of Iraq!

O God of all spiritual and corporeal beings, You Who trampled death, broke the power of Satan and granted life to the whole world, now, O Lord, grant rest to the soul of Your departed Priest-Servant Paulos, in a place of light, freshness, and peace, where there is no pain, sorrow, or mourning.

As You are a gracious God and the Lover of mankind, remember his years of service to You and forgive him every transgression committed by him in word, deed, or thought, since there is no man alive who has not sinned, for You alone are without sin and You are the Resurrection and the Life, O Christ our God, and we render glory to You, together with Your Eternal Father, and Your most Holy, gracious, and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and forever. Amen.

May his memory be eternal.

eternal rest and memory for the holy Priest, who is a martyr for the only true religion.
may be John Esposito needs to think over his position that Islam and Christianity can co exist. they cannot. what fellowship does light have with darkness? the murder of a simple inoffensive Priest proves what many of us have been saying here.
Much Love,

AP - Thu Oct 12, 10:00 AM ET Mor Gregorius Saliba Shamoun, Metropolitan of Mosul Archdiocese of Syrian Orthodox church, blesses Paulos Iskander, Syrian rite priest, during his funeral in Mosul, Iraq, 360 kilometers (225 miles) northwest of Baghdad, Thursday Oct. 12, 2006. I think the above photo is mislabelled. The bishops looks to be a Catholic bishop (possibly Chaldean Catholic), not Syrian Orthodox.
