Just a thought on my part.
The Old Rite in itself is a beautiful expression of the faith as it existed nearly four hundred years ago. Like any part of our experience in faith, it must be embraced and lived, not just intellectually.
I have friends that are part of the Old Rite. While I may not understand all that they experience, and they the same with me, I respect it as a legitimate expression of prayer and worship. The art, music, etc. they have preserved and have brought to the world as a witness is to be commended.
I laud that the tradition is preserved on both side of the divide, those in communion with Rome and those not. Now, if they only could not be as factious.

Bless, Father Anthony, I raise two fingers up for you!! You mean they shouldn't be as factious as the Greek Old-Calendarists with their twelve separate synods? You are right, of course! The Old Rite Orthodox, for me, provide us with a solid focus on the Jesus Prayer, especially with the two-fingered Sign of the Cross. It does take some getting used to . . . And St Ambrose of Bela-Krinitsa was actually an ethnic Greek, as I understand, who joined the Old Believers after coming to the conviction that they maintained the purity of the ancient Orthodox rites . . . I know Incognitus has a great veneration for St Ambrose . . . Kissing your right hand, and that of Incognitus as well, I again implore your blessing, Alex

Thanks to all for the answers. I'd like to read more, whatever anyone else has to offer. All sundry thoughts are welcome. Alex said: ... and that of Incognitus as well... You are giving away too much, it seems! Perhaps you could learn from our Curial hierarchs how to keep "mum." Kidding! Logos Teen

So tell me, someone, what are Alex and I supposed to be giving away? Directions for making the Sign of the Cross?

Incognitus No, I already gave that away along with the accompanying spiritual instruction. Must be something else. FDD

Logos Teen No, Teen, no one knows the identity of the elusive incognito servant of God, Incognitus, and that is what makes him so endearing to us!!! (Hint: he did say once that if we ever see someone wearing a paper bag over his face, it just might be him! ) Regards, Alice

For all we know Icognitus could be a seventh day adventist preacher with an affinity for Byzantine Catholicism and Orthodoxy :p Either that or his bishop must have an extra large paddle with extra holes in it for clergy that post on discussion lists. Or he is a Bishop. We do know that he is our brother in Christ and that we are thankful that he is here to join us. I'm thankful you all are here to join us. I'm thankful for lots today at this present hour and time.

Dear Alice, By the way, I've taken to thinking of you in connection with the Sunday Apolytikion in Tone 6! Thanks for your comment - but I didn't realize that incognito endears me to you. I'm not sure I'm flattered - that could mean that you think if you knew my real name you wouldn't like me, which seems a bit sad!

Dear Incognitus,
You remind me of the fellow who once had a vision of his Guardian Angel.
"And what is your name," the mortal asked. "Would you tell me?"
"No," the Angel responded. "For my name is too beautiful . . ."
Ciao, Reverend!
Alex

Dear Incognitus, OFCOURSE if I knew your real name I would still find you endearing! With whatever name or title you bear, we would still love you here because you have shared your soul and unique personality with us, and that is what truly matters! However-- the very fact that you *can* endear yourself to us with the elusive name of 'Incognitus' is something to be proud of!! (I love the impressive sound of Latin, btw, and the Latin sound of 'Incognitus' is *quite* creative, I must say)... Sincerely in Christ, Alice
