SLAVA ISUSU CHRISTU!

I have question for everyone as to when they take up the collection in your parish during Divine Liturgy.

We want to change ours so we don't take it up during the Cherubic Hymn.

thanks!

In my parish the collection is taken after we sing "It is truly meet" (Dostoino yest').

2 collections...one as soon as the homily is over, one during litany following Cherubic Hymn... frown

Much preferable, though, IMHO, are parishes who wait till during the announcements at the end! biggrin

Gaudior, who has stern thoughts about those who have done collection DURING Communion hymn...sorry, folks... Gaudior wishes to pray, not be harrassed about money then. AND who has the sense to note that if someone is trying to sneak out early to avoid putting cash in try, they ain't gonna do so if tray comes earlier!

Slava Isusu Christu,

As Gaudior stated, we also have 2 collections. One as soon as the Homily is over (during the Litany of Supplication), and one "after" communion, whilst our Father is finishing with the Precious Body and Blood, and cleansing the Chalice and Paten. Gaudior, is that the time you refer to as during the "Communion Hymn"?

No, Michael..

I referred to the hymn sung just before the priest brings out the Chalice for Communion.

Gaudior, in explanation

Annunciation in Anaheim does it just once immediately after the homily.

My Byzantine [Rusyn] parish has a little collection -for candles, I am told- at the very beginning of the Liturgy, at the first "Lord have mercy"- then another at the end of the homily, then they hold out the basket whenever the holy bread is offered, AND they want .50 for a donut or a coffee at the social hour after the Liturgy. This was a bit off-putting to we who were used to the more relaxed Romanian ways which we had first encoutered, where a basket is present for free-will offerings at the social, but we put up with it in light of the glorious Liturgy and the fine evangelical preaching....
