Christ is Among Us!

I was under the impression that Eastern Christians fasted from this evening until the Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul from all meat and dairy.

I was surprised nothing was mentioned at Divine Liturgy this morning. One of our deacons tells me the next fast is for the Dormition of the Theotokos.

We are in the Eparchy of Parma, Byzantine-Ruthenian church.

Do the Ruthenians skip this fast? What are other parishes doing.

Any thoughts?

He is and always shall be!

I'm in the Passaic Eparchy and although it was not mentioned at Liturgy the Apostle's Fast was mentioned in the bulletin. Both the parish bulletin and Fr. Petras' Typicon mention that the fast calls for no meat and dairy on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during the fasting period which begins at Vespers this evening (All Saints' Sunday) and continues through Vespers for St. Peter & Paul on June 28. Also mentioned was that following the fast is voluntary.

Larry and Diak,

Thanks, I see the fast marked on our Ruthenian Calendar.

The Melkites keep it as a strict fast. But the Ruthenians are not as strict in a family setting, yet in the monastery they would be.

Of course Holy Apostles Byzantine Catholic Fellowship parish feastday is the Feast of St. Peter & Paul, June 29th. We'll have Great Vespers Saturday the 28th at 5:30. Then we'll have Sunday Matins at 11:00 before our Divine Liturgy at Noon.

All are welcome.

We also will have Divine Liturgy the next morning (Monday) for the Feast of Apostles.

By the way, the Holy Apostles Fellowship is of Wichita, Kansas and is under the Eparchy of St. Nicholas in Chicago.

God Bless
