I don't find these comments funny at all. The opposite implications of this means: Vatican Documents allows homosexuals only for ordination.

And also the fact that a particular Chuch allows married clergy (which is what I guess you meant) in no way a guarantee that it will free of troubles.

As Christians we should be more sensitive to the troubles the Catholic Church is passing through.

And the gates of hell will not prevail...

Yours in Christ

Hector,
I agree with you, this was in very poor taste.

Boys,

It was a silly post to compliment the silly post with a similiar title. That's all.

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Dear Stephanos and Diak,

You are quite correct. I find Axios' post offensive. We ought not encourage this sort of attack on our Roman Catholic brothers, especially in their time of trial.

I find NOTHING offensive here. Perhaps a bit of humor, but it has been made more than obvious that this was not intended as an attack of any kind.

Dear Paul,

Your Church Slavonic is incorrect. 'Bogoroditza' (using your spelling convention) is the nominative, when addressing someone the word must be in the vocative, in this case, 'Bogoroditse' (no -z- sound in that word, my spelling convention). It is the same as the angelic salutation, the "Hail Mary" if you prefer, which begins "Bogoriditse Devo..."

Dear Bob,

Excellent point!

But I will also point out that the hard "G" sound, while Russian, was actually opposed by Russian bishops in the 17th and 18th centuries, i.e. the Russification of Church Slavonic.

And so the soft "H" sound is not only the Ukrainian version, but also the historically preferred version of the Russian hierarchy itself.

But I'm O.K. with it - as long as you say it! smile

I would have to say that I agree with Paul, Hector, and Stephanos I.

This is not humorous, it is mocking.

And so is this comment, especially the "Boys" part, not only mocking but condescending.

The "silly post" mentioned happens to be a post of a real document and if you thought it was silly wouldn't it have been better to comment within that thread, especially because it is an actual document of the Catholic Church.

The title of the thread, while not politically correct, does fit, as this line from the document shows, Advancement to religious vows and ordination should be barred to those who are afflicted with evil tendencies to homosexuality or pederasty, since for them the common life and the priestly ministry would constitute serious dangers.

Now I know that this does not match some peoples agenda but it is fact and to make fun of this and others who support it is just wrong.

Here is my humble $.02
What about our brethern who are affliced with evil tendencies to avarice, pride, dishonesty, sloth, anger, hatred of neighbor, heresy, etc.
(The list goes on and on.........).

I think it is relevant to point out that exactly NOBODY is worthy of Holy Orders. Men just have to do the best with where they are at, and trust God to give them the grace to stick with it. If we start excluding everyone with "evil tendencies", than we will have no priests at all.

Dear Sarum,

Yes, that is what I eventually learned as a priestly "wannabe."

I became very self-conscious and self-focused, rather than throwing myself on God's Mercy and being open to Him and allowing Him to live and work in me.

I think my failure as a candidate for the priesthood is largely the result of just this kind of resistance to God's Grace and total reliance on His Holiness to overcome personal faults.
