Off course, if something is no longer required, why bother to do it? Perhaps the church should redefine the new rules, or is it possible to revive the old rules?

Should you not do everything you can to show your love and appreciation for what He did? IOW, is "just enough" good enough? Glory to Jesus Christ!

There should not be problem. Those who wish to fast can do so. Those who are lucky to get one meal a day are no longer obliged to fast under the current RC practice. we who live in the 'first world' have to think of the rest of the Catholic world that is not lucky to live as we do. We are adults and we make choices. The Church invites us to do that make a choice.
I dont see the problem. If people are having sea food feasts on Fridays well to me that is a good indication that they may have moved away from the Church or not far from the edge.
My own exteneded family meet together at my parents house to share a simple meal of fish and chips from the local Greek Fish and chip shop.
In my country the RC bishops invite the laity (&clergy) to join them in keeping Fridays meat free. People are encouraged to not just simply 'not do' but to actively think of contributing the money they might have spent on themselves to a charity.
We know that in the newly indepentant Republic of East Timor, that is just next door but very poor they might just benefit from what ever they have on their plate on Fridays, or any other day.

"As was taught in my Theology class, when we fast we return to the state Adam and Eve experienced in Paradise, where nothing was killed for their sustenance. We attempt through fasting, to put ourselves back into that state, as best as we can. "
Yes, according to tradition, Lent is a taste of Paradise. Adam and Eve didn't eat the flesh of animals because Adam named them. You can't eat "Fluffy" can you?
But many Latins now think of fasting as a socio-political statement. Its ok to fast in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the 3rd world. Whatever.
