Vie,

Well I will most definitely pray for your family; it sounds like a tough situation. It is always difficult for kids to handle a big move.

I have attended the mission that Epiphany has in Montgomery County, and it is very nice and a good group of people (one or two of them are on this forum). I've never been to Epiphany, though.

I would also recommend (as Neil did) Holy Transfiguration in McLean. I'm not sure how many teens they have there, but they sure don't have any Latinizations!

My own parish in Gaithersburg has a wonderful youth group that is very large, very active and well catechized, but alas, it is Roman (nobody's perfect! smile ).

With all the discussion earlier in this thread about obligations to attend a Catholic liturgy, etc., I would like to pose a hypothetical question to the more scrupulous posters on that topic.

Suppose there are two Catholic churches in a given area - one Latin, one Byzantine (of some flavor). The priest of the Latin parish has to travel out of town immediately after this Sunday's Mass and will not return to later in the week. Would the members of his parish be obligated to attend the Byzantine church's liturgy on Monday to satisfy the obligation of the Feast of All Saints? (Assuming that it is obligatory on a Monday. I can't keep that straight anymore - senility must be setting in.) This seems somewhat odd, since the Byzantine church would be celebrating the Feast of Ss. Cosmas and Damian, not a "Feast of All Saints".

In a non-hypothetical situation earlier this year, our Byzantine pastor was out of town on Cheesefare Sunday. Using the same logic, I attended the local OCA liturgy rather than the 7th Sunday of Ordinary Time in the local Latin church, since that seemed to make more liturgical sense.

Comments?

AHA - now here is an interesting factoid biggrin

Certainly here in the UK this year the Feast of All Saints is NOT a Holiday of Obligation Because it falls on a Monday.

As our pastor said this morning " Due to some quirk now in the Scottish Calendar if a Feast which is a Holiday of Obligation falls on a Saturday or Monday then it is not a Holiday of Obligation "

OK - I'm quoting - don't blame me for that

Here too in the USA - if the Holy Day falls on a Monday it is still to be sure a Holy Day but no longer is it a Holy Day of Obligation - also if it falls on a Saturday so they told me.

So the U.S. bishops have decreed. All Saints is not a holy day of obligation in the Latin Church this year.
