Ninety more years to go till Vatican II is fully implemented!

Dear Nathan,

I'm very impressed that a teenager could write something as intelligent as you did. I think any church would be happy and proud to have a member like you. smile

Hritzko

PS: Please disregard anything you may have read about chainsaws and pews.

Dear Nathan, the little pillow or mat used by the Old Believers that Alex describes is also ornately embroidered and is called a podrushnik. I'm sure you would look great with a rubashnik, a poyas (embroidered belt) and your podrushnik. Prostrations are the best aerobic exercise... smile

Yes, only bring a chainsaw to remove pews if your pastor requests you to.

Dear Diak,

And I'll never talk about pews to young people again . . .

After a religion class some years back (I'm returning to teaching religion on March 7th! Pray for me - and for my students!), I gave a negative talk about the pews.

Well, as I was walking home, I noticed some of those same kids getting hammers from the caretaker and were trying to get into the church . . . to remove the pews.

That really got me into trouble with the principal . . .and the parish priest . . .

Dear Nathan,

I second Hritzko's commendation!!

And we can go beyond Vatican II any time!

After all, as the Administrator often reminds us, it is only a local Latin Council . . . smile

(And, no, I'm not trying to provoke the Administrator in any way. I know he's thrilled to have me back, even though he's not saying anything . . . smile ).

Of course! Sometimes the job can be done with a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench.

I have to agree w/ Ilya's original observation. I don't like pews, either. Sufficient seats placed here and there for those who truly need them should suffice. There are people who need to sit and we want to accomodate them, but I do find that they make God's house less welcoming. Just IMHO.

Out with the pews except for a few for the handicapped and elderly.

Unless you have a teen you are trying to move east from the Western Rite... Then all you get complaints <G>

It would be better if the Church were Pewless so I could tell my kids... .

Sorry... No pews... Now we have to go so that some of the family sits, while their father (the raving lunatic convert) can stand.

Sounds good to me and have covers that can be changed for the colors of the feasts. Don

Bless, Father Don!

I would also replace foot-washing with foot-massaging . . . smile

That's if you wanted to go toe-to-toe with your parishioners . . .

Kissing your right hand, I again implore your blessing!

Friends,

I don't know why this thread is so popular confused

I 'm not trying to influence Eastern practice.

A pewless church would help people from falling sleep during Divine Liturgy (e.g. Homer Simpson.) biggrin

You guys have given me an idea (it's ok to borrrow from the East).

Our parish church has pews and it has an area in the back of the church where the overflow crowd can stand. My priest friend tells me that usually the Catholic answer is "And" (faith and works, etc"). So, let's have pews and open space in the church.

Peace in Christ,

Paul
