I have put some photos I took while at Holy Resurrection Monastery at Newberry Springs, California in june/July 2006.

The photos are not in any particular order. You will see the desert the monastery is situated in. Photos of Monks at work earning their daily bread at the Monks bakery situated at Big Bear Lake in the San Bernadino Mountains. Pics of one of the monks being tontured (must have wanted to go through it, as he kept bringing the sissor back everytime the Abbot threw them away). Monastery cats keeping cool, after a night keeping the snakes etc away and so on and so on.

Thanks for the wonderful photos!

How wonderful that authentic Eastern Christian monasticism is thriving in California. And Eis polla eti, Despota, to His Grace Bishop John Michael (Botean) of Canton for his support!

Thanks, Paul! These are great pictures!

What a blessing to visit with one of the greatest sources of renewal in the Greek-Catholic Church!

Pavel, sorry to have missed you at HRM. I and another parishioner from my parish were there just before the Orientale Lumen conference down in San Diego. His Grace Bishop John Botean was there, and went on to the conference as well.

A bus of parishioners has been attend the annual pilgrimage there for several years. They have a difficult life there in the desert without all the creature comforts most of us are used to, but with special rewards.

I flew in on the very last day of the conference. We had to go down there to San Diego to pick up Fr Maximos and spent the afternoon with Fr Robert Pipta (the PP for Van Nuuys local parish) before heading off to the Mojave Desert. Those building unfortunatley don't handle the great heat very well at the monastery. They were not well designed in that regard. Shame we just missed each other.

Pavel, How did you know?

Yesterday I had the pleasure to listen to the archmandrite of the monastery delivery the homily at the Divine Liturgy at St. George in Aurora IL. A most holy and venerable monk. To listen to him made one want to go off into the desert oneself.

Thank you so much
