Alex -
Mr. Administrator did get a little feisty there, didn't he? I must admit, though, your post on the supremacy of the papacy did seem to go against Catholic teaching - until you explained yourself in a later post! That second post was a big relief!

Dear Alex, Originally posted by Orthodox Catholic: Dear Adam,
I didn't know we were pursuing the issue of "trans-jurisdictional sanctity."
Do you mean cultural variants of religious practices?
Are you people at LOGOS creating a new theological language over there?
How much is a subscription and where do I sign up?
If you are wondering why I'm asking so many questions, well why shouldn't I?
Well I invented that lingo about 'trans-jurisdictional sanctity' to describe the phenomenon of, say, a Russian Orthodox with a devotion to, say, St. Therese of Lisieux or a Roman Catholic with devotion to St. Seraphim of Sarov. The article I speak of goes well beyond that, looking at all sorts of devotions in RC, Orthodox, Eastern Catholic, Protestant, and even non-Christian circles. LOGOS will cost you $35Cdn. a year for a subscription, consisting of two double issues per annum (when we are on track, which by February 04 we should be, please God!) of approximately 300-400pp each. You may e-mail sheptytsky@ustpaul.ca to subscribe or call 613-236-1393 x. 2332 or write to us at Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Institute, 249 Main Street, Ottawa, ON. K1S 1C4. Thanks for the interest!

Dear Tammy, Yes, and the Administrator has every right to be feisty. I get on his nerves sometimes. I sometimes do that to people on purpose. Perhaps I'll grow out of that childishness one day! But to paraphrase St Augustine, "Convert me . . . but not yet" Alex

I remembered this thread while I was working on a paper related to this. In the Hapgood service book on page 292, in the betrothal the rubric there is "and when he hath spoken thus to each one thrice, he placeth the rings on their right hands. Then the bridal pair exchanges the rings, and the priest sayeth the following prayer: O Lord our God.... By thine own right hand...and the right hands of they servants shall be blessed also by thy might word...."
I do not have quick access to the Ruthenian Slavonic text (from Rome) at this moment, and I am swamped with finals still. I think it difficult for the texts and rubrics to be that different I think from looking at the moment of the giving and exchanging of rings it is clear.

Dear Tony,
Are you married yourself? If so, what hand do you wear your ring on?

Dear Tony,
But would you wear your ring on the right hand if you were? In other words, would wearing it on the left hand be breaking Orthodox tradition?

Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me a sinner All, All this posting about wearing the wedding ring on the right hand or left hand is interesting. Why did my buddy tell me that I must wear my wedding ring on my nose? Paul
