Greetings All,

I have a question regarding Icons. Is it proper to depict someone who is not a saint in Iconographic form? If so, would it just be without the halo?

Thanks Much

Yes, this is correct. We have had an icon of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky without a halo for nearly 20 years.

Many of us though, have seen iconographic representations of secular figures, so- called "renewers of society", which are controversial.

While I tend to admire people who strive for social justice, beauty, and peace; I feel uncomfortable seeing them portrayed in iconographic style, halo or not, especially when they were not members of a church which respects and/or venerates icons.
wink

With Best Wishes!
Stefan-Ivan

Peter, You might be interested in Iconofile [iconofile.com] . It's for those interested in icons as well as iconographers around the world. They have a forum with many good icon discussions.
