Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever! This Saturday, June 17th, at 1030 am, a Hierarchical divine liturgy will be celebrated at St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, Orlando, FL. in honor of 25th anniversary of the founding of their parish! Axios to Father Sal and all the parishoners. A few questions please. What is the proper manner to greet/address a Ruthenian Bishop? How would one request a blessing from the bishop? Do we bow, do a half or full metanoia? Is the information at the St. Elias site valid for the Ruthenian Bishop? http://www.saintelias.com/ca/hliturgy/index.php I thank you in advance for your assistance. This will be the first time a few of us have ever had the chance to meet our bishop. In Christ, Michael

Michael,
It is valid, although in the Pittsburgh Metropolia the bishops arrive vested, they are greeted in the narthex with the salt and bread, the Liturgy then procedes dirtectly to "May the Lord bless you from Zion..." skipping the vesting in the nave at the cathedra.

Michael - yes Archpriest Roman's observations are indeed valid. Deacon Lance is correct on the usual procedure in most of the Metropolia, although out here Bishop John has vested in the church every time I have served for him. You might want to check with your priest regarding the Bishop vesting. FDD

Father Deacons Lance and Diak,
Thank you both for your information. So then what kind of a bow do we make when greeting the bishop?
I saw this but it does not specify what type of metanoia to make:
Greeting a Priest or Bishop
To Greet a Priest or Bishop:
Instead of the colloquial "Howdy Fadda" common in some churches, the standard greeting for Priests and Bishops in our Churches is to ask for a Blessing. We hold out our hands, right palm on left and say:
"Father, Bless"
In Ukrainian:
" Blahoslov " (stressed thusly: blahoslo-Vi )
If Greeting a Bishop:
If we meet a Bishop (anyone looking something the guy in this photo - who happens to be His Grace, Basil, Exarch of Vyshhorod), have the right as the People of God to receive God's blessing from him.
If greeting a bishop, we say: "Master, Bless"
In Ukrainian:
"Blahoslov, Vladko" (stressed thusly: blahoslo-Vi , vla-Di -ko)
And after receive the Blessing, we kiss the hand that he will place in our palms - as a sign of reverence to God, who is the origin of all our blessings.
Thank you again.
In Christ,
Michael

Just because you know how to greet the bishop correctly, doesn't mean he knows how to answer correctly. Even if they know, some prefer the handshake and "just call me bishop" approach.

Aren't you supposed to do prostrations when asking a Blessing from a Bishop?
How about from a Monastic Priest?
How do Old Believers ask for Blessings from Priests? From Bishops?

Dear Incogneat,
I do not know. Maybe some of our Deacons can answer these questions.
In Christ,
