His Grace + Bishop William Surkla, doesnt get to vote in the Papal Conclave?

Dear Daniel,

Ultimately, it matters not whether Eastern Cardinals vote for a new Pope of Rome or not.

We are not part of his Patriarchate, Metropolia or Episcopal See.

We are only in communion with whoever is the Pope of Rome.

It makes no difference to us in about 95% of everything that affects our Churches.

Mega Ditto to what Alex "OC" said!!!

We don't vote in their conclave,AND THEY DON'T VOTE IN OURS!

That's the way I think it should work!

Otherwise there would not be inter-communion of Churches, but only a unity by submission to one authority.

Daniel-

A Bishop doesn't have a vote in a papal conclave!

Cardinals vote for the pope. Cardinals are appointed by the Pope. There have been Eastern Catholic Cardinals- in fact at the present time there are 5, with 4 under the age of 80, eligible for papal elections. The only way, the Eastern Church can get a vote, is they need to be a Cardinal or if the rules were changed to allow Patriarchs to vote also.

The Byzantine Church( Ukrainian & Carpo-Rus) don't have a Patriarchs. The Ukrainians have a Major Archbishop, who is a Cardinal

Actually, if I may be so bold as to make a slight correction, the Holy Synod has designated that the Chief Hierarch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church a "Patriarch".

And His Beatitude, Kyr Lubomyr, has officially permitted of the public commemoration of him in liturgical celebrations as "Patriarch".

Almost all the Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Churches in my experience commemorate him as the Patriarch.

That other Churches (like the Moscow Patriarchate e.g.) don't recognize this - is their concern. Ours is to glorify God and obey the Patriarch and his Holy Synod.

Dear Friends,

Yes, indeed, Lubomyr Cardinal Husar is our Patriarch and even our Basilians up here commemorate him as such.

(When Husar was created a Cardinal, he put his Cardinal's ring in his pocket - the Italian press jumped on him for that and he said words to the effect that he'll only wear it when in Rome on Cardinal's business - it is not a title of concern for Eastern Churches)

It'll take Rome some time to come around, but if the CCC is any indication, it is well on its way! smile

FYI, an interesting piece on the UOC-MP website today.

It notes that Patriarch Husar held a press conference to deny that he ever was a member of a masonic lodge.

Instead, a relative of his, also "Lubomyr Husar" was a member of a Parisian masonic lodge called "Ukrayina" but, in his later years, left it and returned to the Church.
