I guess you could tighten your thinking up a bit here in general, but you seem to be on the right track to me.
Your approval and/or disapproval of posts makes me think that perhaps you might be a priest or professor?!? biggrin confused biggrin

God bless,

He asked for comments, Alice. NOBODY has to pay any attention to me whatsoever. I hold no gun to anyone's head.

I have a favor to ask. Please do not treat my efforts to contribute substantively to this forum as thought it is no more than crass arrogance. That is a false attribution and I try to absorb as much of it as I can, but coming from a moderator I find it out of place.

If Bob had not asked I would not have made the observation and suggestion that I did.

Eli is getting tired of being chastised for expressing opinions just as many do here.

Elitoft, please calm down. Perhaps you haven't noticed that alot of us here are quite open about ourselves and like to tease each other good naturedly and fondly in many ways...and that's why we use emoticons so freely in these situations. Even those who are not open about themselves and their identities, like Incognitus, still have a sense of humour about themselves.

I am sorry that you think that you and others are being chastised for your opinions here. Personally, I don't see that, but perhaps those who do might be a bit happier on a different forum?

Anyway, I did not intend to offend you. I am sorry that you took it that way and ask your forgiveness.

In Christ,
Alice

I am sorry I did that as well. Truthfully I was recently threatened by our esteemed Administrator with expulsion. His ways are a bit heavy handed and I fear them actually and I juke if I even suspect them coming, so any time that I get the kind of reaction from anyone that I got from you, I fear anew.

I will do my best to get that reaction under control.

Thanks for you patience. This is turning out to be an interesting discussion.

I apologize, I didn't read the whole thread. I have been in the hospital, and it caught my eye. I just remember reading recently that statement again, and thought I would share it with you.

absolutely!
Amen is another way of saying the Name of Jesus. what ticked one of my Seminary profs off was that too many people say Amen without realizing the fact that I just mentioned. he heard a couple of Seminarians swapping jokes, and one joke was so funny that the hearer kept saying Amen, over and over, I guess as a subsitute for laughter. the prof was raised Dutch Reformed in Michigan, and no one said Amen in the service unless he or she really meant it, and after a lot of thought.
Much Love,
Jonn

Fear of God is not a feeling of boot-shaking, Jamie Lee Curtis scream queen, old horror movie terror.

Fear of God is more akin to being in the most extreme awe of God and of the holy and really indescribable infiteness of God and his brilliance, which our puny minds can only begin to wrap around. "Awe" isn't the word, because it doesn't quite say enough about the emotion evoked - but that's really more the idea, as I see it.

So, yeah, you can "fear" God and see him as loving and merciful at the same time. I always marvel in the concept that He knows each and every person on the earth better than we know ourselves, from the moment we first had life.

1 The parables of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel. 2 To know wisdom, and instruction: 3 To understand the words of prudence: and to receive the instruction of doctrine, justice, and judgment, and equity: 4 To give subtilty to little ones, to the young man knowledge and understanding. 5 A wise man shall hear and shall be wiser: and he that understandeth, shall possess governments.

7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 1:1-5; 7.

I like what you wrote, I could understand it easily and thought it was well constructed.

I love quotes from monastic fathers!
