Shlomo Lkhoolkhoon,
An Antiochian Orthodox friend of mine is looking for Spanish materials to place in his store. It caters to a large Hispanic community. If you know where he can order it please list it.

Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

Dear Yuhannon,
Do you live in Chicago or Toronto? I am an Antiochian who established a bookstore in my church seeking Spanish Orthodox materials as well. Do we know each other?

Shlomo Rum Orthodox,
I am a Maronite cool , but my friend is Rum Orthodox biggrin . He has agreed to let Catholic materials in Spanish to be placed in his store if Orthodox materials were also available. For a long while he was letting Evangelicals frown use his store as a place to recruit, and I was very mad at him for letting them do so. So now we have a better solution wink

Dear Yuhannon,

Try the Melkites. I 've seen Spanish pamphlets published by them. I can't locate them on their web site right now.

Maybe Father Deacon Ed could help you locate Spanish materials.

Peace and grace be with you,

Paul

www.fatheralexander.org [fatheralexander.org] is a ROCOR site kept up by their bishop in South America, and has a lot of good Orthodox materials in Spanish. I'm glad I know Spanish, because there is much more available in Spanish than there is in English, I think, although there is a good amount that is there in English. They all seem to be leaflets of some sort that are reproduced online. Perhaps you could check them out, and then see if the bishop knows how they can be ordered?

Glory to Jesus Christ,

Being of Mexican extraction, and having lived in Argentina for two years, I know of many things that are available in Spanish. I know that portions of the Philokalia have been translated into Spanish, as well as books of the text of the Divine Liturgy. (The Melkites in Argentina sing the Liturgy in Spanish.) There is a very good series out of Argentina, the "Lumen" series, which has relatively cheap translations of Patristic texts, including St. Basil the Great, St. Cyril of Jerusalem, and even St. Seraphim of Sarov's "Conversation with Motovilov". (I first read this famous piece of Orthodox spirituality in Spanish.) So, the stuff is out there, you just have to look. Publishing houses out of Spain and Argentina in particular are your best bet, though you might find some stuff coming out of Mexico.
I can only say, however, that if these materials would be used to prostelytize Mexicans and other peoples of Latin American origin in order to bring them into the "holy fold of Orthodoxy", one would be waisting one's time, since we are already in it: "la Iglesia una, santa, catolica, apostolica, y romana". We have been "Orthodox" for five hundred years, please save all prostyletism for those who are not in the Patristic Church and who need it.

Viva Cristo Rey!

Yuhannon,

I checked out the Melkite educational materials and I found none in Spanish. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The following site contains a lot of useful information about Orthodox, Grkats, and Oriental Orthodox.

http://www.geocities.com/pro_ortodoxia/

The Mexican Orthodox Exarchate has this site too:

Hope it works!

Yuhannon,

The OCA Diocese of the South [ocados.org] published the basic service books and other devotional material some years ago (I have some of them) and other material has been published over the years but is not widely available here in the USA. The "Introduction to the Jesus Prayer" by H.R.H Princess Ileana of Romania of blessed memory has also been rendered in Spanish, I bought it at her monastery in Ellwood City, PA. I think the Hogar Rafael Ayau in Guatemala also offers some material but I am not sure. Chile is said to have a very active Spanish speaking Orthodox community but I have been unsuccesful in acquiring any material from there.

Many major works have been translated into Spanish such as Meyendorff's "Byzantine Theology" and other works. These are usually limited runs and obviously available more easily in Spanish speaking countries. La BAC [bac-editorial.com] in Spain has published some Patristic and related Eastern Christian work as well.

I hope this helps.

I have some translations on my own. Priests from the UAOC, and the BC Eparchy of Van Nuys have praised them as accurate. Feel free to give my e-mail address to your friend:

Once upon a time, the Byzantine Icon Packet from God With Us Publications was available in Spanish. It may still be -- check with the distributor, Theological Book Service. (Sorry, I don't have their contact info. Hopefully it's either in the links section of this site or somebody else can provide it.)

And it includes the icon I use as my avatar, described in Spanish, but not "Our Lady of Guadalupe" -- go figure!
