Lance, It is interesting to note that a number of women do hold positions formerly reserved for priests in Roman Catholic diocesan curias. In the RC Diocese of Phoenix, the chancellor is a female religious and the vice-chancellor is a diocesan priest. The chancellor for the Archdiocese of Portland is a lay woman, I happened to meet her after a Divine Liturgy at St Stephen's (She was visiting Phoenix). The CCEO still requires a cleric to hold the office of chancellor. (Fr Deacon) John

This is probably some idea that Cardinal Daneels had to give women a little more power in the church not necessarily make them priest or deaconsor any religous ministry and then news got passed around and it got way outta hand.
Sincerely Max
P.S. these are just my thoughts.

Lance etc, Oh please! I am not going to waste my time posting many crazy things either being said or done today by the hierarchs of the Church. Everyday, I mean EVERYDAY, there is some new story about this Bishop celebrating Eucharist with Protestants or that Bishop saying Homosexuals should be allowed into the priesthood, etc. Yes, the Australian news might have gotten this story wrong. I will grant you that but it still does not excuse the thousands of outrageous stories we hear all the time. So what if this report is wrong does it excuse the thousand of other reports of Mass abuse, Pro-Murder lay people given HIGH-church positions, or the countless number of Catholic universities today teaching outright heresy? Umm? The problem is with these old Bishops. They all need to retire and soon, so the new young good priest can take over and heal the Church of this craziness. Of course we should not blame the Bishops completely after all some of the seminaries that educated them taught them Homosexuality is ok. For example, James F. Keenan, S.J. of Weston Jesuit School of Theology. http://www.wjst.edu/news/light/winter/campus.htm Father Keenan recently stood as a representative for the Church before the Massachusetts regarding constitutional amendment H.3190. In which Father Keenan encouraged them to vote AGAINST a bill that would ban homosexual marriages. Father Keenan knows his stuff he received a doctorate in moral theology from Rome's Pontifical Gregorian University. Fathers Keenan argument was that the Catholic Church teaches tolerance and respect for homosexuals, and banning marriage from these people would be the highest form of discrimination. http://www.hccns.org/Docs/WhatTalkingAbout.doc Father Keenan is also the author of, Faith and Homosexuality. I dont think you want to read that one. Anyway, the Bishops see absolutely nothing wrong with Father Keenans teachings or he would remain a professor educating our new priest. Correct?

Lance,
I will apologize for the sensationalist posting. Looking back it was sarcastic. But, I am just so sick of the hierarch of the Church today. How long do we have to tolerate this? When will the Church stand up to these people and say enough is enough?
Admin,
My apology applies to you and many other Non-Catholics who read this forum. In addition, the Church is still One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic!
Catholics,
My position on this issue remains.

Johan, are you aware that most of these "liberal" bishops you complain so loudly against were appointed by Pope John Paul II? Don

I think there is a danger of using the broad brush of "liberal" and "conservative" as perjoratives. It really reduces the individual to little pigeonholes. People created by God as we know, are more complicated then that!

Don, Come on it is not the ministry or function of the Holy Spirit to change a revealed truth. The Church has infallibly taught on this issue from its very conception and in its defeat of the heresey of Montanism. They too advocated this heresey of women priestesses. The Holy Spirit guards the Church which is "indefectable" and cannot proclaim error as regards to faith and morals.

Stephanos,
I did not see anything in Don's post that argued one way or another about women priests. He was asking Johan to maybe stop a moment and look at this broad brush he was using about "liberal" bishops.

Don,
Yes, I am he is in fact the whole problem. He needs to retire. He is destroying the Church. This is an anti-Catholic position. If you really believe the vicar of Christ is destroying the Church, you are just like the fundamentalists I grew up around who said exactly the same thing and vehemently hated the Catholic Church. I do not see how you can profess as you say to be a Byzantine Catholic or a Catholic at all with a position like this. This Pope's orthodoxy as stated in his numerous beautiful encyclicals and his overt support of liturgical tradition in both the East and West speak for itself, and regardless of Johan's bashing the world knows the holiness and sincerity of this Pontiff. This is akin to a Catholic version of Chicken Little. We can once again go through the multitude of orders of traditionalist Latin communities created with this Pope's direct involvment, how many Roman dioceses there are now that have the regular Tridentine Mass that did not prior to his watch, Traditionalists reconciled from schism, etc. His pilgrim visits to the corners of the earthy. His support for the return of the Catholic East to its traditions. And the fact that there are more Catholics now than before V II, and even more than the last Pope. Don from Kansas and I had dinner recently with a diocesan priest from Mexico who teaches at a very full and orthodox seminary with over 500 men. These are not the signs of a Church on "red alert". It is quite riduclous to think that a few fringe bishops doing or saying something sensational like what started this thread represent in any way the deposit of faith that this Pope has faithfully guarded. This kind of hysteria also borders on a sin against hope since Christ Himself assured us that nothing will prevail against His Church. I guess I could as easily say watch out, we will all be Jansenists and denying that the current Pope is really the Pope because a few crazy sedevacantist traditionalists on the other side of the fringe believe that position. One is preposterous as the other. Has this bishop, regardless of his erroneous private opinions, implemented women priests? NO. Can he and remain a Catholic bishop? NO.

My beef with the Pope is that he has elected most of these Bishops who have elected Pro-Murder lay people to positions of power within the Church. THOU SHALL NOT KILL! Abortion is Killing! Abortion is Murder! Abortion is Evil! Yet, Pro-Murder lay people like Leon Panetta gets to be elected National Review Board (NRB) investigating sexual abuse reforms. How can this be? If I had the time I would post many other Pro-Murder lay people who have been elected to high lay positions within the Church. It makes a person sick to think about. Not to mention the countless Pro-Murder speakers at Catholic Colleges. God Save Us! The Church has the right to demand all people who represent Her do not stand for the killing of babies. There is NO room for negotiation. This Pope's orthodoxy as stated in his numerous beautiful encyclicals and his overt support of liturgical tradition in both the East and West speak for itself, and regardless of Johan's bashing the world knows the holiness and sincerity of this Pontiff. This means NOTHING when you allow Pro-Murder people to speak on your behalf. It means Nothing! Diak, I don't know how you feel but I would rather be martyred then allow a baby to be killed. The thought of the millions of babies being killed in this world due to sinful nature of man makes sick to my stomach! Regardless of how I feel about the economy, environment, etc. I would NEVER NEVER vote for a Pro-Murder person much less have one speak on my behalf. This whole topic is bringing tears to my eyes... I am not going to talk about it anymore.

What does this have to do with the Traditional Latin Mass? This is quite simple. You have directly questioned the orthodoxy of the current Pope. That is obvious from your previous statements. The fact is that he has supported the return of the Tridentine Mass, and blessed several religuous orders to say ONLY the Latin Msss. This shows he is quite committed to Catholic tradition. Why would he support tradition if he is, in your own direct words, "destroying the church". Once again it doesn't jibe with your accusations of his "liberal" leanings. My beef with the Pope is that he has elected most of these Bishops who have elected Pro-Murder lay people to positions of power within the Church. We seem to go from one disaster to another. This thread started with a purported issue on "women clergy" which turned out to be an exagerration and sensationalism (thanks to Lance and Father Deacon John for clearing that little bit up). I am not following this new twist in the road at all. No one yet in this discussion brought up prolife issues. If you want to discuss that, or are implying I and others here are somehow not committed to life as Catholics, perhaps we should start another thread. Johan, your statements indicate that you have perhaps missed many of the Pope's own teachings and public statements regarding his commitment to life. Holding the Pope accountable for the exercising of free will of every Catholic, right or wrong seems a bit unreasonable to me. I will continue to pray for him and support him as I can. Please at least pay more attention to your sources and do a little homework before you light a fire with a thread such as this.

I ask forgiveness if I have offended anyone by my brusque posts on this thread, but this thread started out as a rather dubious exagerration and sensationalization of a statement which was significantly different in nature when analyzed closer. On top of that the Holy Father is directly accused above of "destroying the Church" and with this allegation, placed on a Catholic forum, I felt compelled to respond.

Dear Friends,
First of all, we should always refrain, on this forum, from attacking the person and faith of His Holiness, Pope John Paul II.
That is not on and such is an entirely unprovoked attack.
If Johan feels this is the case, he should, right now, get up from his computer and contact his local Orthodox parish to join it and leave the Catholic Church.
And he should join the most anti-Catholic jurisdiction he could find. Anything less won't do the trick for him.
Alex
