Blessings and well wishes for a productive Theotokos fast to all of you who follow the Old Calendar, according to which the fast begins tomorrow.

Dear Brendan,

Thank you, dear friend!

I've always considered you a "closet Old Calendarist." smile

I came across an outline of the "seven fasting periods" in our Church and I thought I would share them here.

The first four are: the Great Fast, the Nativity Fast, the Apostles' Fast and the Dormition Fast.

The fifth relates to the fast of every Wednesday and Friday throughout the year, with the exception of the fast-free periods.

The sixth relates to the two fast days of September, Holy Cross and the Beheading of John the Baptist.

The seventh is the Eucharistic fast, nine hours prior, or from midnight.

A blessed and Holy Feast of Dormition to you and your entire Church tomorrow, Servant of Christ!

Alex

I understand that the Eastern idea of fasting and abstinence is different than the Western idea of the two. It might take a while, but does anyone mind typing out for me the days of the year on which Eastern Catholics/Orthodox fast and/or abstain? And what does this include? ALL animal products? Thanks and God bless.

Soli Deo Gloria,
