Hello!
What a wonderful message board! It is a shame that I didn't find this sooner.
Anyway, I'm writing to inquire whether there are any specifically Croatian or Hungarian Byzantine communities in the US or Canada that the users of this site are aware of. My wife and I are currently afloat in a sea of Rusyns, and are looking for other Byzantines that share our ethnic background. I know you are out there, but whither I know not!
In all seriousness, since I haven't been able to visit any churches in the dioceses of Hajdudorog or Krizevci, I was wondering whether there were any customs/usages extant there that differ from what I experience currently as a member of a Ruthenian church in the eparchy of Parma. Of particular interest would be any difference in the tones. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

There is one Croatian parish, St. Nicholas in Cleveland and severl Hungarian parishes spread throughout the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh and the Eparchies of Passaic and Parma. The only one that jumps into my head at the moment in the Eparchy of Parma is St. John's in Solon, Ohio which I have attened, great parish.
Different tones do not exist as far as I know, although I am sure their are some minor variations. The Hungarian parishes generally use Hungarian where Rusyn parishes use Slavonic. The Croats use Slavonic.
Krizevci and Hadudorog, (as well as Presov, Miskolc, Kosice and Prague) are all the daughters of Mukachevo. Krizevci was formed by a small group of Serbs who eventually came to identify themselves as Croats and was later bolstered by a large migration of Rusyns in 1750. Since then they have used the Ruthenian Recension and chant. Hadudorog is primarily made up of Magyarized Rusyns with a later infusion of true Magyars, converts from the Hungarian Reformed Church.

Dont forget the Hungarian St. Nicholas Greek Catholic Church in Roebling, New Jersey. This parish is only one amidst a see of Hunky churches in this little town. Others are Annunciation Roman Catholic Church and a Hungarian reformed church. There is also a Romanian Greek Catholic parish right behind St. Nicks (Their bells always ring right in the middle of our liturgy).
Also to let you know that every year the parish has a good old fashioned ethnic festival with all sorts of singing and dancing as well as food right out of the old country.

If I am not mistaken the Hungarian Byzantine Catholic Church in Mckesport is Transfiguration, and in Duquesne Pa it is St Mary's and In Homestead Munhall it is St Elias'. also in Mckeesport there is St Mary's which is Roumanian. I also thing there is one in Toronto Ont but I am not sure of the name
