Zenovia, She said it had to be Wojtyla because he was born during the time of a solar eclipse. There was a solar eclipse in Central Europe at that time of his birth.

What if the gloria olivae was really a reference to an olive branch, the symbol of peace? Interesting, huh?

The book of St. Malachy's prophecies I am reading says, under the heading, Gloria Olivae, "St. Benedict himself has prophecied that before the end of the world comes about, his Order will triumphantly lead the Catholc Church in its fight against evil." It goes on to say the Order of St. Benedict is also known as the Olivetans. If the next pope takes the name, "Benedict," then this may be more than religious Nostradamus at work. Who knows? With only two popes left, I wouldn't invest in any long-term securities if I were you.

Prophecies are fun. You never know what they mean until after they come true :rolleyes:

I kind of hate to add to this thread, since I am not a fan of the Malachian prophecies (and less inclined to speculation on the next Pope), but my penchant for minutiae compels me to point out His Excellency Jean-Baptist Gurion, O.S.B.Oliv.. - born Oran, Algeria, 24 October 1934;
- professed 8 December 1962;
- made solemn vows 12 December 1965;
- ordained 29 June 1967;
- installed Abbot of St. Mary of the Resurrection 11 July 1999;
- named Titular Bishop of Lydda and auxiliary of the Patriarch of Jerusalem for the pastoral care of Hebrew-speaking Catholics, 14 August 2003;
- consecrated 9 November 2003, at Kiryat Yearim, Israel, in the Church of Notre-Dame Arche d'Alliance, by Michel Sabbah, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, assisted by Cardinal Roger Marie lie Etchegaray, and by Pietro Sambi, Titular Archbishop of Belcastro, Apostolic Nuncio to Israel and Apostolic Delegate in Jerusalem and Palestine.
As far as I know, Bishop Gurion is presently the only hierarch of the Olivetan Benedictines, other than Michelangelo Riccardo M. Tiribilli, O.S.B. Oliv., Abbott sine nullius dioecesis of the Territorial Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore in Tuscany, the primatial abbey of the Olivetan Benedictine Confederacy. Many years, Neil

What do they mean by color-commentator? # Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, a member of the Salesian order and Archbishop of Genoa, served as Cardinal Ratzinger's right-hand man for 7 years at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Respected and affable, he could emerge as a compromise candidate among the Italian prelates. Disadvantages: Cardinal Bertone's gregarious nature can detract from the gravitas expected in a Roman Pontiff; other prelates looked askance when he served as color-commentator for television broadcasts of soccer games, and shook hands with mourners outside the Vatican basilica during the obsequies for Pope John Paul II. Sounds like the guy is a Salesian and does what Salesians do best, mix with and wherever youth are. Don't know how olive he is but he sounds interesting anyway. http://www.cwnews.com/news/viewstory.cfm?recnum=36564 Also, Cardinal Lubomyr Husar is the Major Archbishop of Kiev, the spiritual leader of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, which is the largest Eastern Church in full communion with the Holy See. The selection of a Byzantine prelate would be a sensational move, sure to cause turmoil in Vatican relations with the Orthodox churches, with results that are difficult to predict. Trivia note: Cardinal Husar is the only US citizen on this list. WELL at least we know the East is making someones list Pani Rose

Trivia note: Cardinal Husar is the only US citizen on this list. I also heard this on a BBC World Service report - and it is wrong. Although he *was* a US citizen, Patriarch Lubomyr gave up his US passport and received a Ukrainian one in August 2002. Many years,
Neil Good evening Neil, I would not give these "prophecies" a second thought, actually, not even a first one. You are correct - the only bishop who is a member of the Olivetan Congregation O.S.B. is Bishop Gourion, who is, like Cardinal Lustiger, a convert from Judaism. As for Cardinal Lustiger, he has major problems with his vocal chords and is unable to speak. I do not see him being elected pope. The only Benedictine cardinal is Paul Augustin Mayer, who will turn 94 on May 23rd. Many years, Charles

coincidence? I wonder.
