Two questions for our most learned posters...
1. Based on the Gregorian Calendar, how "short" can the Apostles' Fast be and how long (based on the dates of Easter/Pentecost)?
2. (Kinda touched on in another thread.) Should there be mirovanije on the Sunday after Pentecost, as this is still in the post-festive period? [My understanding is that in the BRCC, anointing and distribution of blessed bread is done on the Sunday following a "solemn holy day" and feasts commemorating St. John the Baptist.]

Dear Friend,
Problems with the Apostles' Fast based on the adoption of the Gregorian Calendar is one good reason NOT to follow it - it was one of the criticisms levelled at it by the Greeks when that calendar was adopted.
I agree with you on your second point.

The earliest date of Pascha (using the Western rules) is March 22nd, resulting in a 42 day Apostle's Fast (beginning May 18th).
The latest date of Pascha is April 25th, resulting in an 8 day Apostle's Fast (beginning June 21st).

Dear Diak, Yes, the sales are great. The only problem with Pascha this year was that one couldn't get many Easter lilies . . . sniff . . . And I just love being lectured on Latinization by one or two Ruthenian friends, only to find out that they follow the Gregorian calendar, hook, line and sinker. Well, excuse me . . . This is my first post to this board and I hope I can do it correctly.
For those following the Orthodox calendar for Pascha and the revised Julian calendar for the fixed feasts there will be no Apostles Fast this year. According the list I have the latest that Pascha will fall in this century is 7 May in 2051. This puts All Saints Sunday at 2 July, which is after the feast of SS Peter and Paul. But even if one adheres to the Julian calendar for fixed feasts the Apostles Fast is only 10 days long since SS Peter and Paul is then on July 12.

Who needs an Apostles fast anyway, all of that fasting tends to get in the way of the beloved Greek Festivals. And besides that, I have heard a rumor that when you fast you can't eat meat!
