Hi All,
I'm out of this discussion group...I'm going to stay in Town Hall and Prayer for good. God Bless you all.

Dear Friend,
I agree.
Unfortunately, I have to say that the Administrator has become unnecessarily combative and opinionated while, at the same time, being rather intolerant of views that don't coincide with his own.
But I'm sure he will disagree!

Sick of arguing? But this is a Forum , a place to debate. As long as it doesn't descend into personal attack [which it sometimes has] one ought not take offense.

Alex Well Alex, I would say you were just being a little facetious in this last comment about combative and opinionated, but I don't see any of your trademark emoticons! You might recognize that same characteristic in a few other personalities around here, perhaps someone you know very well! Anyway, we all have our days, myself included, and I apologize for anything I may have said to offend people here, but we cannot expect to get into these discussions and have everyone agree with us. It just wouldn't be natural. I know that the minute I disagree with you about something important to you, we are going to go at it a while, and you have always been unrelenting, but I never expect you to just agree with me. We don't really argue then, we put our opinions into the marketplace of ideas and that's it. If every time people refuse to come around to our point of view we are going to freak out, this forum isn't going to work. But it does work most of the time! For two good reasons, one being an excellent program used to run this board, and it's set up right. The other reason is that this forum is well moderated, not in a heavy handed way, but even-handed, sensitively background-managed. The administrator let's things go quite a long way before he pulls the plug and he's very fair about it. You must know what kind of zoo Usenet has become, this place is like a little piece of heaven. I think you have got the blinders on and that comment about the Administrator was uncalled for. Unless of course, you were just joking, then pity me, I've lost my sense of humour! Michael

Mike, exhausted sinner Dear friend, I disagree, if you have insights or opinions you should express them. Sometimes you might wish you didn't but that would make you just like the rest of us. If you have knowledge you could share it, if you have questions you can put them out. Your posts are welcome here, and you probably have more in common with people here than you'd ever imagine. Disagreements are as common as opinions. But opinions aren't the only things shared, there has always been useful and worthwhile information shared here, even (or sometimes especially) by people who can be combative and opinionated. You are right about the prayer area though, it should be our first stop and if we can go nowhere else, we should go there. Don't be discouraged, keep posting. Michael

Dear Michael, Oh, all right, I apologise! I'm sorry you've lost your sense of humour! When I use smileys, I sometimes get nailed for it. And now I'm getting nailed for not using them. So which style do you prefer? As for your precious Administrator, the point is that he doesn't have an opinion He stands in the One, Holy Orthodox-Catholic and Apostolic Faith at all times as its great defender and promoter here! It's a difficult job, but somebody has to do it. And since you are so good at judging others' posts here, perhaps you'd like to consider applying for a moderator's position? After you've become an Eastern Catholic, that is . . . Apologies to the Administrator for not including sufficient smileys in my post, leaving the way open for misinterpretation (especially by Michael) . Alex (happy, Michael?)

You guys don't sound like you're arguing to me.
Everything on this forum is the writer's opinion. Don't take things personally. Lighten up. :p

Dear Forum: Stop the presses! Have you forgotten already? There are always 3 sides to every issue: yours, theirs, and the correct one (MINE)! Anam Cara, I (well, probably most of us here) was piqued at one time or another. I sulked for a while but always came back. There's no sense in being a ningas cogon, as my grandfather used to say! See, Alex and Coalesco (and the Admin) are still buddy-buddy, after all the Ukie-Ruthenian "fruitful" dialogues (or monologues, to tell you the truth) that we have been put through. However, if you do opt to stay put in "Prayer," include us who choose to bear the endless wranglings hereabouts. Because WE are one family! AmdG

Hey, let's give the Adminstrator credit here!
I've posted a lot of junk on this board, I've reversed my position more than once on different issues, and I've learned a lot!!
I have also made a fool of myself more than once, today is probably no exception.
And I have never been charged for this service.
Who's paying all the bills here? Who goes through all the trouble to keep this medium open for all of our rantings, foolishness and (dare I say it) insightful commentary?
Running this board seems to me like a thankless task.
The Administrator and Moderators here deserve some credit, they do a great job.
It's the rest of us that make this place so difficult.
Michael

That is why I have basically quit posting in discussions. I don't like the aruging and anamosity that comes through. The love is lost! God is not glorified through them, so little is learned.

I for one find it boring not having Alex and LatinTrad and OrthoMan around... I always read their posts with interest. Now that LT and OM have been banned and Alex is more or less staying away, there's not much happening around here! Granted, that heated discussion that got people banned wasn't what I'm looking for either. It was not exactly a model of charity. Can't we find a middle ground - good solid discussions without name-calling? I'll check in on the board every day to see what's up, but I won't be posting much. I shouldn't be spending as much time here when I'm at work, anyway. Tammy

Okay, from a Moderator's standpoint...
We do our jobs best when we are invisible. However, sometimes we have to make a decision to allow posts that cross the dividing line. Clearly, the Administrator has the final say. I had been allowing posts that were a little more fractious than I would have preferred in the sake of furthering the discussion.
Thus, I'm seen as too lenient. On the other hand, I've closed discussions and been accused of being too intolerant. Some days you just can't win!

an unanswered question though Has Latin Trad been given a 'holiday ' Oh at times we all get heated - but you know the best of families do this too. Most of the time we get along fine - and it's fun too. If we feel we are getting edgy then maybe we should take a little break instead of waiting till we are told to have one I like this place - I've made lots of friends here - I've learned lots too - and when I'm on holiday and away from the Computer I really miss you all. Let's use the time till Christmas [ whichever Calendar we are on ] to try and bring some of that Love which was given to us so freely , to others

I know exactly how you feel and this seems to happen at EVERY forum I participate in ... so maybe I'M the ultimate cause of all the arguments? Nahh, can't be THAT! Seriously, I just recently renewed my membership at St. Raphael's, which is a Catholic singles site (I believe it was Alex who once speculated that my social life would really pick up once I got involved in a Byzantine Catholic Church; well, I'm still waiting!) - anyway, they have these Forums with topics like Apologetics, Canon Law (for discussing the Mass), etc. Which is why you haven't seen me around here for a while - I can only handle one Forum at a time. But 90% of the threads in these forums are complaints about our "modernist" Pope and arguments that the SSPX is really the "true" Church. So I tend to get into a few arguments, er, disagreements! I have even been chastised for "defending" the Eastern tradition of standing rather than kneeling for the Consecration. Which is really funny because given a choice, I'd really rather kneel! But I can see the reasons for both postures, & SSPXers are not known for their tolerance of diversity. Okay, just venting ... but thought I'd mention the Catholic Singles site, just in case anyone's been dying to ask me out & didn't know if I was still available ...
