Are the hierarchies of the UGCC and the Ruthenian Church in America somehow related?

I ask because, upon reviewing the hierarchs listed on byzcath.org, I see that Bishop John, Bishop Andrew, and Bishop William are all listed as hierarchs in the Ruthenian Church. At the Divine Liturgy, however, I've only heard prayers for Pope Benedict, Metropolitan Basil, and Bishops Andrew, John, Michael and Robert. Why is Bishop William not mentioned? And who are Robert and Michael? Are "Robert" and the UGCC Eparch of Parma Robert Moskal one and the same? If so, why would he be mentioned to the exclusion of the other UGCC bishops? Amd why would UGCC bishops be mentioned, but not other Catholic bishops?

I apologize for the deluge of questions, but this is all very confusing! Any ideas?

God bless,

Chris

Both Churches split in, I believe, 1926 or 1927, so there is a definate relationship. At the consecration and funerals of hierarchs of both churches, it is most common to see both UGCC and Ruthenian bishops concelebrating.

I believe Bishop Michael is the head of the Slovak Byzantine Catholic Church in Canada.

I can't answer your other questions. I am as puzzled as you are on those. confused

Chris have you any idea how many Catholic bishops there are in the USA alone. eek You would be in there forever just rattling off names of Bishops.

So the bishop of the diocese/eparchy is named and his Metropolitan and then the Pope in Ruthenian churches

In Ukrainian churches they probably do the same but might also throw in Patriarch Lubomyr and then the Pope at the top of the list.

Here in Australia the Ukrainians omit the Metropolitan Denis unless he is present and straight from Patriarch Lubomyr and then straight to Bishop Peter in one hop.

Haha, good point. Thank you both for the information. Apparently some of visiting clergy at my parish are UGCCer's, so that would explain the commemoration of hierarchs from both Churches.

God bless,

Chris
