GLORY TO JESUS CHRIST! GLORY TO HIM FOREVER! I am currently listening to CBS radio news and they just announced that 2 Benedictine monks were shot and killed today at Conception Abbey in Conception, MO. I ask everyone to pray for these monks and for the person who killed them. According to the report I just heard, the gunman(person) has not been apprehended. the least servant... mark

Eternal Memory to the two fathers who were killed. May God have mercy on the assailant, who killed himself also.
I grew up in St. Louis, and am quite familiar with the Abbey. It is very hard to accept this news.

Dear All,
I am a monk @ Conception Abbey. In fact I was just posting here on the forum when I heard the shots fired. At first I couldn't believe my ears, I thought: no there's got to be a mistake. Then everything happened so fast. Some confreres told me to find somewhere to be safe since the shooter was still in the cloister. 2 monks & myself locked ourselves in the computer lab - one of the very few rooms with a door that can be locked. We waited for what seemed was an eternity - but was 20 minutes in stead. Then a SWAT team yelled up the stairwell, they told us to come down with hands over our head and evacuate the building immeadiately! They escorted out the front door - 2 bodies of my dear brothers lying in pools of blood, I knew they were dead since no one was making any attempt to help them. Gone was our porter Fr. Philip and one of our former farm brothers.
Sorry to relate all the gory details, but I thought everyone would want to know. I am still reeling over this horrendous act! The shooter was a retired man whose wife was recently fired - but he HAD NO CONNECTION WHATSOEVER WITH OUR COMMUNITY! He actually drove from over an hour away to come here. It is just so senseless!! He killed himself in our monastic church - right in the Blessed Sacrament chapel. So now our house of God is desecrated and can not be used for worship. Thankfully the sisters down the road have invited us to prayer at there place until we can reconsecrate the church.
I apologize if I'm rambling - I just need to get it out. Please everyone pray for our community and the repose of the souls of our dearly departed Philip and Damian. Also 2 other monks were wounded and are in critical condition - Fr. Kenneth our prior and Fr. Norbert. Please pray for them as well.
Lord have mercy on us all.
Br. Elias

Dear Benedictine[ Br Elias]
I just picked this up on another website and my thoughts were instantly for you all. What a terrible event.
My Prayers are with you all.
May the angels lead your departed brothers into Paradise.
May Our Blessed Lady. Mary ever Virgin, Mother of us all enfold the wounded within her Mantle and gently care for them.
May you all be touched by the Healing Grace of the Father

Oh, Brother Elias, please know that we are all praying for those killed, those wounded, and for you as well.
What a horrible experience. My heart goes out to you. Please, please seek the assistance of counselors as well as prayer - you are in much the same situation as any who have lived through a disaster, and likely will need some of the same type of help.
With love in Christ,
Sharon

Dear Br. Elias and all other monks of Conception Abbey:
Be assured that there are many prayers being offered up from this little scrap of Kansas on your behalf.
May the martyrs come to greet your departed brother-martyrs.

Dear Brother Elias, The tears flow freely from my eyes. May the Spirit of Peace be with you and all your fellow monks and your families. The Heart of Jesus and the Heart of the Church is pierced once again. I promise prayers before the Altar of God. Silouan, monk

Dear Brother Elias,
Be assured our prayers are with you and your abbey.
In blessed repose, grant, O Lord, eternal rest to the souls of your servants, Priest Phillip and Monk Damian, and remember them forever.
Grant healing and peace to your Priests Kenneth and Norbert and to all the monks of Conception Abbey.
Forgive him who committed this sin, may he find peace.
In Christ, Lance

Brother Elias, our prayers are with you.
May Philip and Damian's memory be eternal. Vichnaya pamyat.
Two of the monks, not wounded (Thank God) are Fathers Aidan and Pascal, are bi-ritual and have assisted at our Ukrainian Catholic parish in St. Joseph, Missouri about an hour away. Subdeacon Randolph, a sinner

In Paradisum, deducant te angeli: In tuo adventu, suscipiant te Martyres, et perducant te, in civitatem Sanctum Jerusalem. Chorus angelorum, te suscipiat, et cum Lazaro quondam paupere aeternam habeas requiem.
Br. Elias, I am deeply saddened and am very sorry for your loss. I have had a Benedictine education for most of my life. The Benedictine Sisters taught me in grade and middle school, and I went to college at Saint Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, PA. I shall remember the brothers in Compline tonight, and offer incense and song to God before the icon of Our Lady of Good Counsel (Perpetual Help) for you, the community, those wounded and for the repose of your brother monks. May their memory be eternal.
May the peace of Christ and Holy Father Benedict be with you!
Rich

Brother Elias, We thank You, O Lord our God, Who alone are immortal. Your glory is beyond comprehension, Your love for mankind is beyond expression in words, and Your Kingdom is without end. In You there is no guile, for You have ordained to each person the self-same death. Therefore, we beseech You, O Lord, grant rest in the bosom of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to Your priestly servants and former co-workers +Philip and +Damian who departed in the hope of a resurrection and eternal life. As in Your earthly Church, You made him Your laborer, so make him the same in Your heavenly sanctuary. And, since among men, You favored him with a spiritual dignity, so admit him, uncondemned, to the glory of the angels. On earth, You glorified his life, so grant that his departure from life be in the manner of Your Saints the just ones. And include him among all those who have ever pleased You. For You are the resurrection, the life, and the repose of Your priestly servants +Philip and +Damian, O our God, and we glorify You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and forever. Amen. Fr Deacon El
