Dear Friends,

My local newspaper published an article about our parish altar servers.

What a great idea to let the community know about your parish and the Sacred liturgy.

Call your local newspaper editor/reporter and ask them to do an article similar to this:

Regards to all,

Yes, and use all local newspapers.

Here is another idea-use TV to advertise (i am VERY serious). I saw an ad here in Steubenville (cable from Youngstown) that was advertising commercial space for $16-on cable TV. There we can reach people who are not looking for us, but at least get our name out to folks, a spark an interest. Radio is also inexpensive, and covers the widest area of any local medium. A newspaper ad is more expensive, and folks have to look for it. Another place to look into is advertising at the movie theatre (in KC, a big Baptist church does this). Of course, newsarticles for special events is good on any media.

The point is, we need to have a good marketing strategy, and let folks who are unchurched know that we exist and that we are out there. These folks are not going to look in the religion section or the phonebook and find us.

In Christ,
Adam

Glory to Jesus Christ!

A bill board might be an eye-catcher, especially on the outskirts of town. Imagine a driver seeing an invitation to liturgy in stead of another Motel 6 sign.

What about a group serving up coffee at rest areas? A "greeting/information" ministry at the local airport? Sponsoring a road clean up? Organizing grocery deliveries - perhaps with the local supermarket or assisted living facility - for people unable to leave their homes? Getting out and about in the public will invariably intrigue some inquiring souls.

Newspaper advertising varies. Does anyone remember, though, seeing those small classified notices that usually conveyed prayers? It should not be too expensive to run a weekly, small classified notice that reads, "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me. St. Basil Byzantine Catholic Church, Middletown, HI 12345 Liturgy: Sunday @ 9"

God bless,
Christopher

Most communities nowadays seem to have various give-away shopper papers. Small towns have their weeklies also. These papers will often publish news stories as long as they are well-written. Perhaps someone in the parish knows how to write press releases. Then you can get free publicity for major events that are really newsworthy -- not just "come to our church."
