Thanks for the encouragement. I know many of the issues like language,(which I truly support, but
not in the context of spreading God's word), approval from other Ukrainian Catholic Parishes in the
area, and earning the respect from the elders is and can be very political. These bumps in the road are
small in the long run. The increase of young families in our parish, with at least 30-40 children, most under the age
of ten, is what makes the process sooo worth while, especially when they all gather around the lecturn
with their "holy ghosts" (battery powered candle holders in a shape of a ghost) to hear the gospel
reading. They are small, noisey and somewhat distracting, but they are visions of beauty for our
parish.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but we might (God Willing) be moving to the Greenville SC area. Are there any Byz/Eastern Rite parishes there?

Seeker,

According to the "Unofficial Directory", there are no Eastern Catholic parishes in SC at all.

Thank-you. I was wondering if there were any "house" parishes etc.

IslandSeeker,

Neil is correct in stating that there are no Eastern Catholic parishes in South Carolina. However, there is a Melkite church (St. Ignatius of Antioch) in Augusta, Georgia, which is a couple of hours from Greenville. I know this parish has a website, but I can't locate it right now.

Also, there is a Greek Orthodox church (St. Philothea) in Athens, Georgia, which is appx. 1.5 hours from Greenville. The church's website is www.stphilothea.ga.goarch.org [stphilothea.ga.goarch.org]

Additionally, in South Carolina there are two Eastern Orthodox parishes: Christ the Saviour in Andersen and St. John the Wonderworker in Charleston.

Lastly, there is Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Charlotte, North Carolina, which is appx. an hour and 20 minutes from Greenville.

Not that I advocate going to an Eastern Orthodox church at the expense of your Catholic faith.

Hope this list helps.

Seeker,

I hadn't really thought about what was within travel distance frown . Garrett is correct about our parish in Augusta. Here's their website:

St. Ignatios of Antioch Melkite Greek Catholic Church [melkite.net]

Thanks for the website, Neil. The Augusta parish looks like a vibrant little community! There was an article in the Atlanta paper last year about the old ladies who paint eggs for Easter (what are they called again?) at St. Ignatios.

Island Seeker,

This a wonderful OCA parish in Greenville, SC:

http://www.stjohnoftheladder.org/

Should you decide to look into or visit an Eastern Orthodox parish. The Divine Liturgy is in English, and the parish is small, with many converts, but very welcoming indeed. The priest is wonderful, and there is a very "family-like" atmosphere.

In addition to the Churches near Greenville that Teen mentioned, there is also our parish in Cary, NC, though I am not sure how far we are from Greenville(haven't looked on the map yet.). I have a feeling that we might be a couple of hours away, but if you wanted to make the trip for Holy Days(many of our parishioners who live a bit away do that), we would be happy to send you directions.

Greetings, I hope this is the right place to ask if anyone is aware of any Byzantine Catholic parishes in the Dakotas or Nebraska. I'm thinking of moving out to the plains and can't seem to connect with any parishes. Thanks, Rick

There are Ukrainian Catholic parishes in Lincoln and Omaha, NE.

Rick,

See the Unofficial Directory of Eastern Catholic Churches [crosslink.net] for a list by state. There are parishes listed in each of the three states.

The Directory is usually fairly accurate, but I would double-check to be certain before heading west to a particular place on the strength of it biggrin .

Many years,

Neil, who thinks anyone leaving New England and not going somewhere warm needs help eek

I would triple-check that directory. It lists no Eastern Catholic Churches in Tennessee, yet we just celebrated our 5-year anniversary as a mission. We were actually around a few years prior as a community.
