Excellent question! I'm sure there will be lots of responses. As a primer on the Nativity Fast I offer:

Glory to Jesus Christ!

The observance imposed upon me by my spiritual father is: No meat, dairy products, or fish on weekdays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, wine and oil is permitted. On weekends, fish is permitted, as are oil and wine. Wenesdays and Fridays, days of strict fast.

Hope this helps.

Arturo

In the Latin rite, if someone can't fast(during a required fast time) for health reasons, that is acceptable.....I think probably another form of penance would be encouraged or expected under some circumstances.......How about the Eastern view on this topic?

At the parishes I've been to, when announcing the fast, the priest says the fasting is not required for those with a health problem. He says to see him if you have a health condition that precludes fasting. I imagine he helps you find another form of penance when you discuss it with him. It's probably also a way for him to make sure you REALLY can't fast and aren't making excuses! wink

Hi Tammy,

I am exceedingly late in thanking you for answering my post......I just noticed it while I was wandering around the old posts looking for something else!

Thanks!
