I hate to rain on everyone's summer parade, but Labor Day is not far off, which of course means theat the our Lady of Perpetual Help pilgrammage is not far off. Who may be coming this year? I have volunteered for a few years, but last year was the first time I attended services - with my seora. She enjoyed it much. Not to brag, but I did a little "volunteering" last Saturday. I can do it because I'm close to Uniontown. I will go back to help, especially after Sister complimented me on my weight loss and shaved head! It's new to look more like a smiley than ever before. Yeah, that's me - with a tan, sunglasses and no hair. See "yunz" there!

My husbands family is from Carnegie, and his brothers and sisters use to say "yunz" all the time. His brother live in Bridgville for years. Lord willing and the creek don't rise, Deacon Stan and myself will be there. Since you are fixin' up around there, maybe you can designate a meeting place and gathering time for the Forum posters. Hats off to you, hope you don't get a sunburn! Pani Rose

I used to live at the bottom of the western panhandle in West Virginia and down there it came out more as "ye 'ns" which I thought rather a graceful way speak when addressing a plurality, certainly better than the northern "you guys" if not as lovely as the southern "you all".... I have never been to the pilgrimage; is there a campsite on the grounds? Does anyone have a schedule to post? It would be wild to see the forumites in the flesh; I wonder if my mental images will at all match the actual person... peace, Daniel

Daniel, They haven't posted this years schedule yet but here is last year's: https://www.byzcath.org/ssb/otpust2003/main.htm They are all about the same. Camping is available at the old racetrack, porta-potties but no running water. I am sure you could use the old academy's showers though. Fr. Deacon Lance

Pani - you are in the home of the Global Roman Catholic network! I wish they would do some more programming about the Eastern Churches.
When we get some more replies, I will suggest a meeting place. More than likely, it will be near someplace where food is available!
Last year, they ran out of medovniki before I got there. Not a chance this year. As for sunburn - I would advise everyone to get a travel-size bottle of sunblock and carry it with you, as I do. I use it constantly.

I will be giving it a miss this year - just too much going on, and up until Friday, a car with too many miles on it.
Hope to be back next year.
BTW, there is a lovely restroom/shower room a couple hundred yards away from the racetrack for campers, and porta-dreadfuls on the spot for those who can't make it that far.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
Since we are preparing for pilgrimages, please do not forget the Pilgrimage at the Shrine of Mariapocs in Welshfield, Ohio on August 14-15 for the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God.
This is about 40 miles east of Cleveland. The sisters prepare lots of great food and there are scheduled liturgical activities through the weekend. The highlight is the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy Sunday afternoon celebrated by Bishop John, with many priests concelebrating.
Come if you can. If not, please keep the Shrine and those attending in your prayers.

My family and I are planning on being at both (Mariapovch and Uniontown). Now that we are closer (OH instead of MO), it is much easier to attend.

Adam, Glory to Jesus Christ! It is great you are coming to Mariapocs. Look me up on Sunday. I'll be the one in the black cassock. Deacon El

Deacon El,
My mother lives about 30 minutes from Mariapoch. I was at the Shrine in 1999 and I will be in the neighborhood that weekend. If things work out, the seora and I will try to attend, most likely on Sunday. I pray your travel from Virginia is safe. I used to make the drive from NoVa to NE Ohio when I worked in DC.
Srta. SFF - Granted, there was not much need for sunblock at last year's pilgrammage. Around here, there hasn't been much need for it at all, but, it's smart to avoid skin problems.

I'll be the one in the black cassock Dear Father Deacon, And presumably sans priest-cross (or how else would we be able to tell you apart from the droves of Priests?). I will be the one with the beard and long hair, with two little ones, possibly chanting with the cantors before the Hierarchial DL. S' Praznikom, Adam

This is so much easier with I-68 thru Maryland and PA 60, that toll road out past the airport! We drive from Baltimore to Uniontown, pick up relatives and go on to Cleveland from Christmas and Easter! I'm so glad we don't have to do the Turnpike anymore!!! I heard that on Memorial Day, they closed the Turnpike at Breezewood because it was stopped for 12 miles IN EACH DIRECTION!!!!
Safe travels to everyone!

My only experience with big pilgrimages is the Assumption day pilgrimage at Our Lady of Consolation at Carey Ohio [a beautiful shrine by the way] There, people [mostly Chaldean Catholics from Detroit] sleep in the church or pitch tents on the grounds. Is it like that, or do you have to pay for campsites?
