Of course Latins are also a part of all this. But if they are anything like you, they're already Eastern.

Dear sister Angela, sorry about the unfortunate choice of words. When I was thinking Byzantine, I was thinking Constantinople-style Easterns, and I used the word "Eastern" subsequently to indicate that this should include the Copts, the Syrians, the Indians, the Armenians, etc. who are also part of the Eastern (broadly speaking) church (broadly speaking).

Certainly there are many Western Christians who post here and are part of the community. And in some ways, I consider this a type of internet-parish (hey, there's enough priests and deacons who post). And I also see it, in some ways, as a ministry (though unofficial) of the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Province of the Byzantine Catholic Church. Thus, it's kind of a Byzantine cyber-parish of the Metropolia -- where (as in bricks and mortar parishes) all are welcome.

I didn't mean any offense to you at all.

Blessings!

Dear Dr John and Mor,

smile smile smile smile

Thanks for the kind words - I was just a wee bit miffed - not too seriously wink

Actually I knew what was meant even though it was not expressed that way. I was just feeling a bit contrary - so I ought to apologise to you too.

Cyber hugs all round biggrin

Now Angela,

You know you are! Besides we would all miss out on the blessings from your great travel adventures. How blessed you are!

Dear Seeker Marie and Matthew,

Even before I started reading Dr. John's post, the thought was coming to mind that the Lord knows all of this. He had it worked out before you got to the Church. He is the One that brought you there. And I believe he already has your son's Godparents waiting for you. I know he did for us when we came into the Church and we have never looked back.

Enjoy your excellent adventure that the Lord has set before your families.

Dear Angela,

You have to take Dr John with a grain of salt once in a while smile

He comes across as a wee bit, well, "Jesuitical."

From his SJ point of view, he actually intended to include you in his "Eastern" reference since, from his vantage point in the U.S., you are to the East of him!

But you have your Jesuits up in Scotland, don't you?

We have them in the Ukrainian Church as well, but they're disguised as Basilians smile

Oh Alex,

hehehe

Actually as I said, I just chose to be miffed.

There is a streak of wickedness in me as well.

Mind it has to be said that geography was never one of my favourite subject either - what way is East ??? biggrin

Dear Angela,

I am fortunate in that the wall that my wife has approved for my icons is facing East . . .

One should always pray facing East - and I never know where north is to begin with. That's one reason why I married a geographer.

Can't sing, don't know where East is . . . and I actually thought I had a priestly vocation, isn't that a joke? wink

Dear Alex,

Does your geographer know how well located she is? smile

A short geography lesson.

North is where you are already. wink
East is where you pray toward. smile
Muslims pray toward Mecca.
Canadians pray toward Halifax? :p

Dear Friend in Christ,

I wouldn't know which way to go to Halifax if my life depended on it!

Happily, most of the time I do know which way is up! wink

Dear Administrator,

I have some questions about being able to choose the Church for our children to be baptized. I am RC and my husband is Bzyantine. When our son was born, the RC Church told me that since my husband was Byzantine we had to either baptize him in the Byzantine Church or get a letter of dispensation to approve RC baptism.

We visit both Churches and because there wasn't a Ruthenian church located less than 25 miles from us, we ended up joining a Ukrainian Catholic Church (which I love!), but at first I was disheartened to learn that such a rule was in place.

Can you provide further clarification for me?

Thanks so much.

Dear Kelnate,

The only thing I can say is that if you are part of a Ukrainian Catholic parish, then you have most certainly "chosen the better part" smile

Hello Alex,

Thank you! Do you know where I can find information on the Ukrainian Catholic Church. I want to study as much as I can so that I can bring my son up with as much knowledge that I can have?

Anything would be appreciated!

Not all Orthodox who are in Communion with Rome use the Gregorian Calendar there are some who follow the Julian Calendar.
