Thank you! Do you know where I can find information on the Ukrainian Catholic Church. I want to study as much as I can so that I can bring my son up with as much knowledge that I can have?

Anything would be appreciated!
Hi Kelnate, and Welcome to the Forum!

I am the son of a Ukrainian father and a Polish Roman Catholic mother, so I understand where your son is growing up. My mom got us kids to the Ukrainian Church for our lessons and activities. Even though she was a "foreigner" in the Ukrainian Church, she is the reason I pay any attention at all to important things.

In the words of a song, "Teach your children well."

I am not Alex, nor do I play one on the internet, but I have a few suggestions.

The official website of the Ukrainian Catholic Church (in English):

http://www.ugcc.org.ua/eng/ugcc_history/definition/

The website for the Archeparchy (Archdiocese) of Winnipeg, Canada:

http://www.archeparchy.ca/

St. Cyril & Methodius Parish, Olyphant, PA:

http://members.tripod.com/~stcyrils/

This site has a history of the early Ukrainian Church in America (it is one of the first parishes). Also, a good biography of Metropolitan Andrew Sheptytsky, who led the Church 1901-1944.

Mother of God Church, Conyers, GA:

http://www.motherofgodchurch.org/mog/

This site has links to the texts of most of Pope John Paul II's writings on the Eastern Churches.

I hope these are helpful.

Have a Blessed Day!!!

Hello. I would like to start off by saying, what a wonder forum! This is such a great website. I am a new member and this is my first posting. I decided to join to gain some insight. My mother's family was Ukrainian Catholic so when I was born, I was baptized in a Ukrainian Catholic Church (Transfiguration of Our Lord, in Shamokin, Pa). Shamokin is a small town and most of the people that live there are of Russian, Ukrainian and Polish descent, so Eastern Catholic churches are abundant. When I was five years of age we moved to another small town in Pennsylvania and there weren't any churches near by of our faith. Thus, we worshiped at a Baptist Church. All my life I've prayed the Rosary as my Great Aunt has taught me and wore a three tier cross around my neck. All of my family worships at the Ukrainian Catholic Church and as a child, I loved to hear them speak of it and I thought it was neat to hear their Ukrainian words.

I am 21 years of age and I am now married. I am longing to return to the Ukrainian Catholic Church. I live in Berwick, Pa and there is a Ukrainian Catholic Church here in town. I need some help from all of you. Should I just go or should I call the church first? What is the correct way to go about my situation?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Amy

Dear Amy,

It would probably be best to call and talk to the Priest, to clarify such things as the schedule of the Liturgy and what you would need to do to reenter the sacramental life of the Church.

I found the following address and telephone.

Ss. Cyril and Methodius (Ukrainian)
706 Warren St.
Berwick, PA 18603
(717) 752-3172

Welcome home!!!
