Saint George Prayer Vigil
Attention prayer warriors!
On Saturday evening, April 22nd, there will a prayer vigil at Saint George Church in Aliquippa. For those on the new calendar, this is the eve of Thomas Sunday, and the eve of the feast of Saint George.
Beginning at 9 p.m., there will be a prayer vigil, for the intentions of personal healing, the coming of the Holy Spirit, and renewal in our Church.
We will celebrate the Ninth Hour, Great Vespers with Litije (and sermon). We then begin the Midnight hour with the Great Canon of Supplication (Paraklis) for healing (and sermon), the Akathist to the Mother of God, the prayers before Holy Communion, and the Akathist to Saint George. We will conclude with Matins and the First Hour.
Anyone who wishes to join us for some or all of the Vigil is most welcome. Please remember us in your good prayers on this night of prayer.
the unworthy, Elias

Father Elias,
It is wonderful to see the full all-night vigil being done there in a parish. I pray that it is of spiritual benefit to all that are a part of it. Many Years!
In IC XC, Father Anthony+
Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai

Bless, Father Elias! How wonderful and beautiful! Forgive my liturgical ignorance - is the "Great Canon of Supplicaton for healing" somewhere on the internet so that I may download it? This reminds me of the constant nightly prayer vigils of the Orthodox Saint Jonah of Odessa, the Miracle-worker who reposed in 1924. A married priest (yes, they can be saints too who are married - some of us can even qualify as "martyrs!" ), Fr. Jonah "specialized" in casting out demons from those possessed. The only problem was that when the evil ones were cast out by his prayers, they attacked his home and fires were often started . . . Whenever his Presbytera saw the people bringing one possessed to her husband, she immediately began to "fire-proof" their family home . . . After praying for nine consecutive nights over the crib of a blind girl, the girl received her sight on the morning of the tenth day and Fr. Jonah was arrested by the communist authorities. He was defended by the chief opthalmologist of Moscow who affirmed in court the truly miraculous nature of the healing. Fr. Jonah was freed but then died later that same year. Holy Father among the Saints, Jonah of Odessa, pray unto God for us! Alex

A married priest (yes, they can be saints too who are married - some of us can even qualify as "martyrs!" )... We are ALL martyrs to our spouses, that is why we are crowned with the wreaths of martyrdom in the Mystery of Marriage...(okay, okay, I know--some of us suffer more martyrdom than others! hehehehe! ) Regards, Alice ...and I don't want to hear another insinutation about 'she who must be obeyed'! ...isn't it nice to know that I read your posts so well that I remember humorous 'Alex' trivia like that! :p

Sounds awesome! Reminds me of what they had at the Nicula Monastery in Romania for the Dormition. I hope it goes well for Father Elias and his parish.
Just one question, though: are other priests participating in turns in this vigil? It seems like a lot of services and sermons for one priest! :-)

Christ is Risen!
No other priests, but plenty of help. Just a reminder that the Vigil is Saturday, April 22nd. All are welcome to join us, in person, or in prayer.
Those who have sent private messages, will have their intentions brought to the Vigil.

Father Bless
I am a Neanderthal when it comes to computers and would have sent a private message but I don't know where or how to find your e-mail address.
I realize that it is late, to-day, on the White Saturday ( old calendar ) but please remember this unworthy sinnner and my family. I would write more specifically but it is too private for this forum.
In anticipation of Holy and Great Paskha Kristoz Anesti Alethos Anesti
I humble myself before you.
