Linda:

Congratulations on your successful parish. Did location of the parish have anything to do with the
success?

Scott,
Thanks, it has been and still is alot of work. We are continually fundraising for not only the building
fund, but monthly expenses such as salary, programs, etc, etc. The location is an interesting issue. Like
I mentioned we are #10 parish within the Edmonton Eparchy. The catchment area St.Sophia serves is
a rural/urban mix. Meaning a residental suburb with many acreages around it. Also some smaller
communities 20-30 minutes away. The whole area is one of the fastest growing municipalities in
Canada and the only catholic church serving the people is Roman Catholic. Many of the Ukrainian
Catholics living in this area attend the RC church. Reasons, probably language, programs, distance to
Edmonton(which was only 20 minutes away). The potencial is huge, if we play our cards right. Exciting
but labor intensive. Keep us in your prayers.
Thanks for your interest.

Linda:

Our situation in Indianapolis, Indiana is virtually identical! I would urge you to send the Roman
Catholics an invitation via mail. The Holy Father said in his apostolic letter of May 2, 1995 that the
West must learn to know the East. This way you'll net other Easterners that attend the Roman rite.
We plan on doing this!
