Hi all,
Our group in Wisconsin is disolving due to some deaths and relocations. We don't have the numbers to continue financially. I am saddened. I have done everything I could to help our community so I am at peace. But this is not why I'm posting. Today I received a phone from someone in town who said they were Byzantine and wanted to bring a relative to Liturgy. I explained that we are no longer having Liturgy and why. They said they attended once in the mid 90's when a relative visited. This person expressed regrets about the closing and we both hung up.I know that there are some Byzantine Catholics live far and can't attend. But I don't understand to live in the same town and not attend then lament when the Byzantine Liturgy is no longer there when they do decide to come. Go figure.

My condolences to you, dear Baba. I hope that somehow your community can still stick together. You don't need the bishop's permission to pray together, Vespers, Matins, the Hours, moleben, paraklis, etc. God bless you all for fighting the good fight!

Dear NB
I am so sorry!
This has happened before, the people that could make a difference are often just beyond arm's reach and don't care enough!
It seems we can be our own worst enemies. People take this faith for granted, my prayers are with you.
I am just so sorry!
Michael

Nicky's Baba,
Yes this is a sad thing.
but.... There is a Melkite Church in Milwaukee.
I know it won't be the same thing but it is better than nothing.
St. George Melkite Greek Catholic Church 1617 W. State Street Milwaukee, Wisconsin
The church is located just north of the Marquette University campus on the corner of 17th and State Street.

Baba,
I am sorry as well. But I do have a question, you state you don't have the numbers to continue financially. Do you mena to continue towards mission/parish status? Or do you mean to saty together. The reason I ask is becasue it should not be expensive to maintain a fellowship. Could you elaborate on this?
In Christ, Subdeacon Lance

Thanks everyone,
Lemko, we all want to maintain a relationship and will do so. David ,I have met Fr. Littlefield he is a wonderful Priest. Lance, we once were a Parish- its a long story. We are now in a store front but we have everything to set up a Church Liturgically speaking. We even use to have pews but sold them.

I'm sorry Lance I probably need to make it clearer.Besides finances the Priest who serves us is older and was not looking forward to driving down through winter and he has traveling obligations with his order. There were just too many challenges we could not over come without a Byzantine Priest to lead us and grow a Church here. And the man power just wasn't, isn't and won't be there for sometime to come.

SLAVA ISUSU CHRISTU!
Hi Nicky's Baba!
Keep the Faith Baba!
If I'm not mistaken, St.John's in Solon, Ohio had a similar story. They were a fully functioning parish that fell on hard times when the neighborhood around their parish changed.
Their church was closed and disbanded but a group of them kept in touch.
They decided to start meeting again a few years later and they began in a community hall. From this they found more and more members until they were strong enough to purchase land and build a beautiful church!
May I be so bold as to suggest that your community might begin prayers to Blessed Theodor Romzha, our martyred Bishop, who worked with our communities in Praha and Rome. They were in need of direction and he helped them too!
He might be a powerful intercessor!!!
Keeping you and your community in my prayers!!

Mark,
To clarify some misinformation: St. John Parish was never closed. When the property on Buckeye Road was sold, the parish (what was left of it--about 35 people) worshipped in a school gym in Brecksville. Father Stanley Bartkus took care of St. John Parish as well as St. Joseph Parish. He had two liturgies at the school--one for St. John Parish and one for St. Joseph Parish (that parish was in the process of building in Brecksville then). When St. John Parish bought property in Solon, Father Thomas Loya was assigned to the parish and began services in a town hall/museum (I can't remember exactly what the building was) until the new church was built. That was about 20 years ago and we are still a parish--although once again sharing a priest with another parish.
With the grace of God, a few people of faith and prayer can do mighty things!

Mark,
We have a picture/Icon,story & prayer to Blessed Theodore on the wall. We also had another person call about Liturgy on Sat. Lory mentioned Fr. Loya. That is key. To my knowledge this former Parish and now community never had a Byzantine Priest of it's own. It's always been a RC Priest with prior commitments and responsibilties.

In addition to St. George's Melkite Church: http://www.melkite.org/Georgehome.htm There's St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church. It doesn't have a Web site, but here's the address and phone number: St Michael's Ukrainian Church (414) 672-5616 1025 S 11th St . --Tim Cuprisin

May I suggest reading for meaning - intended or not - before you hit enter.
"One day all our ethnic traits ... will have disappeared. Time itself is seeing to this. And so we can not think of our communities as ethnic parishes, ... unless we wish to assure the death of our community."
