I thought it was more than that, closer to what Joe said....

So, would the $1200 have to be paid all at once to cover the four years or am I confused about the price?

Joe,
Total tuition is $1500. The Archeparchy has it set up like this: the Archeparchy pays $750, the candidates parish pays $450, the candidate pays $300. The Archeparchy and parish pay up front. I think every Eparchy is different. I believe Van Nuys candidates have to pay the entire amount themselves with no reimbursement. I don't know what Passaic does.

Dmitri,
You pay $300 yearly, not all at once.

Slava Isusu Christu!
The fee structure in the Passaic Deacon Formation program is:
Eparchy pays 50% Candidate's Parish pays 40% Candidate personally pays 10%
The costs may vary each year, depending on books, etc.
Congratulations to all in the Pittsburgh program who are approaching Minor Orders! Axios!

Lance,
So... let me get this financial stuff straight. In the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh, the candidate pays $300 per year and his parish pays $450 per year. Thus, at the end of the four years the candidate has personally payed $1200?
What about a situation in which a candidate has to relocate to a different parish midway through the program, due to employment requirements? Would the parish that paid out $450 or $900 for his training feel cheated and embittered? What are your thoughts on this?
Also, I haven't seen any literature yet on a new program starting up. Do you have any info on this? Will a new program definitely be started next summer?

Anthony,
Correct, the candidate will have payed $1200 by the end of the program.
While I can't predict how any parish or individual will feel, I would say we have to be bigger than that. We can not be parochial (no pun intended) about our vocations. We will have to share soon enough. Unfortunately in today's society many people have to go through several jobs and/or moves before they get the job they want or need to be able to support their families, you and I can both testify to this. I don't see how a parish can begrudge a man this. Perhaps in a move the new parish could reimburse the donor parish.
In Christ, Lance

Lance Lance, I cannot comment upon the other two candidates from Van Nuys, but I reimbursed the Eparchy the $1,500.00 each year for my tuition when I returned from our two week stay. I never asked for assistance, but I imagine if there was a financial need an arrangement could be made. John

Stamford diaconal program is about $ 600-800 per year for three sessions, one 8 days duration and the other two sessions 3-4 days apiece. That is just tuition and room and board and doesn't factor in travel and is a five-year program.
