Nobody has mentioned the Akathistos to the Holy Theotokos. Pity; it's lovely and enjoyable, and is supposed to be offered during Lent. Incognitus Incog, check post #9 above, my first on this thread. Last year on Fridays we had Small Compline with the Akathist, We started this wonderful practice last year, and its reception was tremendous. This is also a service that can easily be done without a priest.

Dear Paul, Yes, I was weighing whether I should ask this question or whether to revisit the issue of doing the Anaphora out loud or silently . . . I chose the former! Glad you like it! Alex

Diak - sorry I missed that posting, but delighted that the Akathistos to the Mother of God is doing well in your parish. Suggestion: Byzantine chant for the Canon and Russian chant for the actual Akathistos makes a surprisingly pleasant combination. Incognitus

I heartily recommend the Pochaiv melody as a very beautiful yet a very congregation-friendly melody for sing the Akathist Hymn.

We do at ST. Georges every Friday during Lent.
Even more wonderful is when everyone moves from the pews to the isles for prostrations as the Eucharist is brougt out in procession during PreSanctified. I love it!
Also, I love the prayer of St. Ephrem, it is so awesome to see everyone move out of the pews then also for the prostrations in it to.

My parish tends to do what is prescribed. Presanctified Liturgy on Wednesday and sometimes Friday. The PL is often replaced on Fridays with a moleben since attendance is usually poor. We will have Forgiveness Vespers this coming Sunday.
We are fortunate to have Melkite Bishop Nicholas Samra conducting our Lenten mission for 3 days in March this year.
We usually do St. Andrew's Canon and the Akathist during the 5th week, either on the day prescribed or in place of Presanctified Liturgy in anticipation. There is usually a Saturday Liturgy each week including the All Souls Saturday Liturgies on the proper Saturday mornings.
For the food lovers, there are perohi sales each Wednesday before services with 5 different varieties of stuffing to choose from. We used to have dinners on Wednesdays but that has since died out.
Great and Holy Week is filled with services from Wednesday thru Pascha (including Matins with the 12 Gospel readings on Great Friday.)
I don't think we do anything unusual that I would not expect your average Byzantine Catholic parish to do. I wish we have Sunday evening Vespers, though.
