Dear Chris,
However, in the Greek Orthodox churches of America, the parish council generally sets a priest's salary. I think Miller, please correct me if I'm wrong, was referring to the "set fee per person" and ability to raise it at a Sobor, not simply as a way to raise $$$ for paying a salary but for general $$$ that the bishop may need. Just wanted to make sure I was clear in my statement.

Another interesting thread here.
Preachers are well provided for in Black american churches (sometimes too much so).Because traditionally there was no outside help for preachers and their families, preachers worked outside, but parishioners donated heavily no matter how poor they were.Every Sunday one of the families would have the preacher over (I'm not sure this held for married preachers and their families too) for dinner as a way to get to know him better and to provide a meal for him.
Peace, Cynthia

Being well taken care of financially is a feature of the Evangelical Church ministeries regardless of ethnicity. The more prophetable make it to the TV.

Peace, Cynthia Dear Cynthia, That is very nice. Thanks for sharing it. I know how important religion traditionally is in the Black American community and I respect that. Your sister in Christ, Alice
