Glory to Jesus Christ! Every Pascha I see one or two ruby colored or white colored glass/Plastic candle covers or protectors in use during the Resurrection Service. These reverse bell covers, seem to be used to protect the candle from the wind and the hand of the worshiper from hot wax. Does anyone know where one can purchase these? After a recent Pascha in which one poor sister, who did not wear a head scarf had her hair catch fire and another year in which the hot wax from a burning candle spilled onto a small child scaring the daylights out of him and leaving a nasty 2nd degree burn, I think I know why those should be used---but where does one get them?!!! Brother Thomas, the implements (the 'inverted' bells made of plastic) are technically known as 'bobaches', or singular "bobache". (French!)
They can be ordered from any liturgical supply store that serves the liturgical churches, i.e, Catholics, Orthodox, Episcopal, Lutheran.
We purchased a whole mess of them for our parish, but unfortunately the ushers just use the stupid cardboard drip-protectors as regular practice. There is a liturgical place nearby here in N. Va. that carries them. If you need them, let me know how many, I'll see if they have them in stock (or I'll steal some!!) and have them drop-shipped by UPS. As you know, keeping the candles alive for the procession is really important for the celebration.
Bless you (and your community!!)
Blessings to all!
PS: There is an old belief that having one's hair get 'flamed' at Pascha is a sign of blessing. I don't know who came up with that, but I think it's crazy (and, it stinks -- literally!!). And some of us wish that we had enough hair to actually put us in danger. But that is another question.

In a pinch you can make one by cutting a hole in a plastic drink cup.
Cheers,
