I didn't see a message section for "Miracles" so I thought I would post it here. I found out that the priest we met had moved to a Church close to where we live -- so I asked my husband to take me to Divine Litrugy on Saturday at that Church -- and he did! (I was going to go myself whether or not he went with me, but I was so glad he wanted to go.)
He really enjoyed it and we felt very welcomed. I asked him after we left if he would be willing to go back again, and he said yes, definitely! He said the Icons really made him feel good -- that the way the inside of the Church was decorated and arranged, and the way the service went felt very right to him, and that he was LOOKING FORWARD to going back again! Yay!
I knew in my heart he would feel that way. He has been nothing but supportive about me and the Icons. My husband asked how he would go about learning about the Byzantine way of faith, and I liked how Father Farmer said "Well, you just have to keep coming back to Church!" G!

Pooklaroux,
Your joys are our joys. May the intercessions of the Theotokos and the Saints help guide him and you at this critical time in your spirit life.
In IC XC, Father Anthony+
Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai

Thank you Father! I am just trying to be patient and listen. The touchpoint for me is the relationship I have to the painting I have been doing of The Holy Mother and her Wonderful Son. I know in my heart I want to be doing more with the writing of Icons. But things cannot be rushed. I can't even sit down and make myself do these paintings. When it is right, I just know I need to sit down and do a painting, and it happens. And when I try to force it, it just doesn't work.
I am really hoping to find a spiritual director who can help me in these matters. It's not that I didn't enjoy going to the RC Churches around here, I did. But no one these seemed to be able to advise me about my painting.
And I really enjoy participating in the singing during the Liturgy. Since my husband also feels comfortable, that is just another good sign. Still, I am being patient, and listening.

First, off, what a wonderful blessing for him and for you as well. Second, I am curious. Can you tell me what it is about the holy icon he particularly finds right? Or the liturgy for that matter? I'm hesitant to say what I'm about to say, only because I don't want to put the idea into your head. I really would like to know if this is what it is. I'm curious about a thesis that was advanced by Leon J. Podles in his book, "The Church Impotent" about how the East still retains its masculinity in its icons, liturgy, etc. and thus it is more attractive to many men than post-conciliar Catholicism. When you said what you said, it put me in mind of this, and I was wondering, can you say that this was, or wasn't a part of that for him? Second, I am curious. Can you tell me what it is about the holy icon he particularly finds right? Or the liturgy for that matter? ... I'm curious about a thesis that was advanced by Leon J. Podles in his book, "The Church Impotent" about how the East still retains its masculinity in its icons, liturgy, etc. and thus it is more attractive to many men than post-conciliar Catholicism. I asked him your questions: Well, we are visually oriented people. The Icons themselves, and the stories they tell, really capture us for themselves. He says he likes the whole way the church is decorated and arranged -- he appreciates a more traditional religious experience. He likes the dome with it's images which puts him in mind of spiritual things. So many Churches today seem like auditoriums! They may have high celings, but they could just has well be concert halls or gymnasiums! He doesn't think the Icons seem any more masculine than any other Catholic religious art. But actually, I think they do portray a more mature masculinity -- I wouldn't be surprised to find that it's having a subtle effect on his feelings. He always complains about "Precious Moments Jesus" figures and art. You just don't find that in Byzantine Chruches, or I haven't seen that yet.
