XB!

Glenn,

Is the new UGCC community forming in Charlotte? A young woman, Angela Smook, orginally from Winnipeg, on a recent visit back home, came by and told me of the good news of a new parish being formed in NC. I sent her back with as much music as I could. Be assured of my prayers!

Christ is Risen!

Good morning, Father Michael,

I'm Glenn's wife, he's away in Charlotte this weekend, so I thought I'd step in for the day smile .
There are several communities being formed in NC at this time, Charlotte and Raleigh being the two that I am sure of, Glenn will have to fill in where the other one or two are located.

Thank you for sending the music; I know your gift will be greatly appreciated.

Please include my husband in your prayers as he begins his Deacon candidacy, as well as our Father Deacon Mark, who at the moment is the only Deacon here in NC and is an amazing one man show.

Kissing your right hand,
Vie

Apparently I was too late to go back and edit this last post, so I want to clarify: I shoudl have said that Father Deacon Mark is the only UGCC Deacon here in NC right now.

Christ Is Risen,
Indeed He Is Risen!
Vie,
Just wanted to update you on the other Mission in NC. We are also trying to find people in the Winston-Salem / Greensboro area. Glenn and Deacon Mark celebrated Typica at our home during Christmas. If you know of anyone in our area, please let me know. We are still in contact with our Parish "back home" in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. They have been a big help to us. We attended Divine Liturgy with Bishop Robert from the Ukranian Catholic Diocese in Parma, Ohio today in Charlotte. I had the pleasure of Meeting Angela Smook there today.
In Christ,
Tari

On North Tryon Street in downtown Charlotte, just two or three blocks North of the Bank of America Corporate Center, there is a building which once was a church. Although at least partially preserved (ie: stained glass windows) I think it may now be part of a larger theatre complex. Every time I pass it I always marvel at its classical Byzantine architecture, complete with a central cupola. It would be great it if could be rescued and adopted by the UGCC as a functioning church. Also the last time I visited the city about a month ago, the immigrant cab driver who drove me into town was a member of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. He assured me that there were no fewer than two such functioning churches in the area. I promised him that I would visit his congregation next time in town.

Christ is Risen, and Peace to All!

I am wondering if anyone knows of an Eastern Rite Catholic Mission forming in Western North Carolina...

I live in Boone, a small college town in the Northwest corner of North Carolina, in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains;

There is a fairly large Roman Rite Catholic parish here, and a small Antiochian Orthodox Mission;

I have heard rumours of a Byzantine Rite mission beginning in Hickory, a town which is about 40 miles away, but I haven't been able to find out anything more, so I'm hoping someone on this forum might have some leads.

Also, if anybody knows anything more about Ethiopian / Eritrean Orthodox Churches in the Charlotte, NC area, I'd really like to know about them, also -

My wife's family lives in the Charlotte area, so we visit there often on weekends. I visited the Ethiopian Orthodox community in the Raleigh area when I lived there a few years back (they met in first the Antiochian Orthodox, and then in the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Byzantine Catholic Church), and they were wonderful!

I know that Charlotte has an Armenian Apostolic Church (see their web site, http://www.stsarkis.net/, especially the interesting story from "Charlotte Weekly", "Fatefully Faithful", in the "News" section), as well as Greek Orthodox parishes and missions, an OCA parish, and a Serbian church community, with the Eritrean community planning to form a mission (http://www.tewahdo.com/churchLists.htm).

Anywho, any info. on Eastern Rite Catholics in my area would be greatly appreciated!

I am currently an Eastern Orthodox Christian, but I have long been interested in the Catholic Church, especially the Maronite, Ethiopian, and Byzantine Rites.
