Hi, Snoopy, i agree with you that the laity in North America and in many other countries have done very little to protect the orthodox christians and clergy of Turkey. This is because sadly for the most part i think that many of the orthodox christians in North America especially view orthodoxy in an external way, the go to church once a week and then forget about God the rest of the week variety. They view the church more like a social club and God forbid it should say or insist on doing something that would cause them to be uncomfortable or go against their middle class north american values.
The 3/3 thing that you mentioned is not the same thing as the example you gave at all. The croation "solution" was a humanly invented idea and not a prophecy. I also am very sad at the idea of 1/3 of the turks dying, especially as i have just returned from a trip to turkey and met some really incredible and nice people who i have formed wonderful friendships with. But who can understand the judgments of God? The way that Elder Paisios explained it is not that God is responsible, but that because of the sins of the Turks and the many atrocities that have been committed, God allows certain inevitable spiritual laws to operate. All we can do is pray for mercy and that Gods will be done.
Thanks for the websites Diak, those books are books that the elder has written but not the ones i mentioned, though the book that pictures the elder looks exactly the same as the greek version of his life that i am talking about.
