Photius' argument, according to the article, seems to be if the fathers disagree with the currently held position - don't mention it. Arianism would have prevailed with that stance.

I had to laugh when I saw this post, laughing because what a coincidence! I did a paper on St. Augustine in the Eastern Orthodox tradition...and I've been trying to set up an independent study in philosophy to explore the topic further...I used that article for my paper, it's a good one.

Father Seraphim Rose also had quite a devotion to "Blessed Augustine"...
His "Confessions" had quite an impact on me in college.

Dear Friends, In the Greek tradition, Augustine is called "St Augustine the Great!" For me, his commentaries on the Psalms are magnificent and very helpful. And, Dr Eric, you totally missed my little joke . . . But that's no crime, the Administrator sometimes misses them too! You are in great company! Alex

In my Puny Mind, St. Augustine is a Great Saint!
His Theology may have its serious flaws, however overcoming Lust is no small matter.
I believe that St. Augustine and St. Mary of Egypt serve as wonderful examples of repentence and Love of God.
St. Augustine and St. Mary of Egypt Pray for Us!

Alex No, I didn't miss your joke. I know that he was the Bishop of Hippo. I was trying to tag on to yours as Hippo is in North Africa.
