Dear JM,
The canonical Orthodox Churches recognize Latin Rite ordinations as fully valid. Latin priests accepted into the Orthodox Church may not marry!
If what you report is true, it is an awful scandal and completely at odds with the traditions of the Church, East or West!
Please let us know which group, diocese, or jurisdiction has permitted such!
In Christ, Andrew

Andrew,
To my knowledge both the OCA and ACROD have accepted priests from the Byzantine Catholic Church and allowed them to marry and to continue as priests. Theses two juridictions accept Byzantine Catholic priets through vesting, not reordination as with Episcopal ministers. It is my understanding that allowing them to marry is an exercise of economy since they were denied that right when they were Byzantine Catholic. Perhaps Fr. Thomas could shed more light on the subject?

I've heard this rule: Once a man has received holy orders he may not receive the sacrament of matrimony/mystery of crowning.
I don't know why the Church keeps this discipline.
Any authoritative teaching on this practice?

Paul,
For Catholics, the canon laws of the Eastern Churches (CCEO c. 804) and the Latin Church (CIC c. 1007) state that those "in holy orders invalidly attempt marriage."
I presume there is a similar canon among the Orthodox.
