Is there a patron saint of cantors? If so, does anyone know where I might obtain an icon of him?

I would think St. Romanus the Melodist, although a deacon, he is most renowned for his liturgical compositions.

As Deacon Lance said, Saint Romanos is a good choice, especially since many of his Kontakia are still used today (like on Christmas). Other hymnographer saints include Saint John of Damascus, a monk, iconographer, priest and author of the Paschal Canon; Saint Ephrem the Syrian, a monk and deacon who wrote many hymns for the Syriac Church; and Saint Kassiani, a nun who wrote a famous troparion sung during the Matins of Holy and Great Wednesday.

And let's not forget the Prophet and King David! biggrin

I believe there's an icon somewhere of the "Synaxis of the Holy Hymnographers" that includes all these saints and more--perhaps someone would know where to find it.

St. Cosmas of Maium, St. Andrew of Crete, and St. Theodore the Studite also come to mind.

More recently there is Blessed Volodymyr Pryjma beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2001. Blessed Volodymyr was martyred in 1941 while travelling along with his priest, Blessed Mykola Konrad, who was also martyred at the same time by the Soviet NKVD.

Don't forget Saint Vladimir Pryjma.

He was out on sick calls with his pastor, and they were both killed by the Soviets.

I found a Synaxis of the Hymnographers [users.sisqtel.net] icon. Take a look!
