Dear Professor,

I guess I meant the miracle itself celebrating St Nicholas' Protection. I've never seen an icon of the Protection in connection with anyone but the Most Holy Theotokos.

Traditionally, one places embroidered towels over icons indicating the Protection of the Person(s) depicted on the icon as well.

Kudos to the BC's for this devotion and this icon!

In addition, the East's veneration of St Nicholas is also something that is a great treasure it offers the world as something rather special to our patrimony.

Our very first UGCC parish in Toronto that began the process of "Easternization" under Fr. Bohdan Lipsky is named for St Nicholas (its interior was filmed for the movie, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding").

There is also a miraculous icon of St Nicholas in Tarpon Springs venerated by the Greek Orthodox community there that is said to have shed tears.

Among other such miraculous icons, there is the one found in the sea by a Greek fisherman and when the conch shell that was stuck to the head of St Nicholas was yanked off, (human)blood trickled down the icon.

Holy Hierarch St Nicholas, pray unto God for us!

(I am so very proud that my Slavic brothers and sisters in the U.S. in the BCC have distinguished themselves yet again with their special devotion to St Nicholas the Miracle-Worker!).

This wasn't the case in Jacobs Creek, where the Rusyn immigrant miners lost a days pay for any Holy Day that took place on a weekday.

I remember my Dad telling me a story about my Dido (Grandfather) being asked to work on Christmas Day (Jan. 7th). My Dido shook his head and laughed at the foreman and said "No thanks"!

May we all be thankful for the struggles our immigrant forefathers had to endure while just trying to survive here in America.

The press release of the ACROD is wonderful - it's accurate, informative and doesn't try "one ups-manship".

And the reality of the 2 Carpatho-Ruthenian Metropolitans under one roof, without the roof caving in, is in itself a miracle that would not have been envisioned 25 years ago.

Are these the end times? :-)

One hundred years ago, ACROD was not yet a separate Metropolia.

Neither was Pittsburgh separate from Philadelphia.

Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker is still working wonders.
